6 month Surgiversary
Today is my 6 month Surgiversary. I'll take my picture before leaving for church, but don't know if I'll have time to post it here today. I started out at 337 lbs., and weighed 230.8 today. That's a loss of 106.2 lbs. Not too shabby. I normally lose about 3 lbs. a week, sometimes more, sometimes less. The summer loss has been pretty good so far. I am so glad that I had this surgery. It has been life changing. I feel so much better, know I look better and am finally seeing the change in the mirror, and have a lot more energy, especially for a 46 year old.
This afternoon, my son and I leave for a week long mission to Port Arthur, TX to do repairs on Hurricane Rita damage. So many more people help with Hurricane Katrina repairs, when there was much damage too in Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana. There are only 5 of us in our church going. We hope more people will go next time. It's been 10 months since Hurricane Rita, and they say there's 3 more YEARS of damage repair left. We're staying at a Methodist Church in Port Arthur. I bought a newer, better, bigger blow up mattress, and am taking my high thread count sheets, so I hope I'll sleep okay on it. We have to be at the work site at 7:00 am every morning, and will be off at 3:00 p.m. We're going to eat out every night and pack a lunch to take to the work site. I have my tubes of protein and stuff to make chicken salad, nuts, protein bars ready to go! Hopefully, we'll do some good. My son has been complaining this week about having to go. I told him it never hurts to help others. I've found out a side benefit is that it will look good on his college applications in a few years. That has nothing to do with why we're going, but it might help him get into Texas A & M in a few years.
I went on a mission trip 2 years ago w/ him, and was our church's kitchen representative, so I cooked for 3 days for 100 people and had to buy all the groceries. I do have a certification to teach commercial food service and taught high school classes for it for 7 years, but I'd rather cook at home or for parties! I feel your pain, Hazel. It's hard work.
Back to Surgiversary, I hope in 6 more months, I'll still be seeing a lot of progress and will be much closer to goal. Maybe the 3 lb. / wk. loss won't slow down and I'll be at 150 by January, but who knows?
Have a great week everyone. Maybe I'll work (& sweat) off a couple of extra lbs. this next week.
