Anybody Starting to
Wonder if anybody was eating more than what is on there meal plan yet. I have been eating 4 meals a day. Not bad food choices, good ones actually, but I seem to get hungry more now than before, but I am still losing. I wonder if I am still losing just becuase I am only 6 months post op like the rest of you, anybody else experiencing this?
Mike
I eat a little more each meal than I used to, but that should be normal. It depends on what I eat. Sometimes a few bites is all I can eat, sometimes up to almost a cup of some things. I get a little hungry sometimes, but not like before surgery. Most people lose until their 18 mos. out. Hopefully, that's the way it will be w/ all of us!
Keep up the good work.

We eat more because the healing of the stomach is done, it takes about 6 months for this to happen. The swelling is gone so there is more room in the stomach and the food passes thru faster. This was told to me as normal by my Doc.
I don't know if I healed sooner or what, but I eat the same now as I did about 3 months out. I might just take the same amount of food and stop. I do get hungry, feel light headed sometimes. I don't get hungry more often though. I do get head hunger, usually at that time of the month (sorry if TMI) and have to watch that I don't eat then. Usually I have a sf puddy, chocolate, that takes care of it, but as a normal part of my meals.
I think I am still loosing, can't tell out here on the road.
Now around 18 months our bodies will rewire themsleves, sort of. They will start absorbing more of what we eat. This is why 18 months is considered the honeymoon phase. We can still loose and maintain, but we have to watch more carefully what and how much we eat. If there is a one pound or 2 jump up, then I know I will take care of it then, not sit back and say it's just one pound, not a big deal, use to do that, all the way up to over 100 lbs of it.
I know you have been worried about the fact you are still loosing. One thing I have heard of is some drop 10 to 20 obs below goal, then plateau for awhile, then gain that back. Also when some of u**** goal, we may find we go up 10 lbs or so and that is where we stay.
Just letting you know what I learned from my Doc, his support group and the main board.
Hope things are goin better for you these days.
My doctor told me that this is "normal". The biggest issue is to listen to your body and your new stomach. You can eat more, but it doesn't mean that you need to. If you are hungry, you might need a little more, or you might need more fluids, or you could be lacking in some of your vitamins. Dr. told me to be sure that I am getting my water and vitamins in, and then if I am still "hungry" add a little more protein.
I will be the first to admit that I don't always get enough protein... and a little too much of the other stuff. That could be a source of the hunger.
Hope this helps... I am no expert... in fact, I think I am one of the slowest losers in here, but I am still losing and I am WAY healthier than I was 6 1/2 months ago.
Just listen to your body... it will tell you what you need... we just got so used to listening to our head and not our stomachs... but your stomach should be easier to hear now.
Good Luck!
