I love living out here, Special Kay! We only have seven acres....we dont really farm the land but the back 5 acres are in hay which we give free to the next neighbours to feed their cattle for wintering in their barn, in exchange, they cut and bale the hay and take it away, leaving our fields looking beat and tidy *s*. I have a huge garden, 30 feet by 50 feet and, also, dwarf fruit trees including pears, apples, nectarines &, plums. I also have Dutch blackberries (they're huge) , gooseberries, red currants and asparagus besides the usual garden stuff and the garden is surrounded on 3 sides by three rows of sunflowers..they are growing like crazy and are, as of today, 14 feet high and now the heads are so heavy, they are starting to droop! We cut the heads off in the fall , leaving several feet of stem, hang them in the barn to dry, then hang them upside down from the bare tree branches outside in the winter for the birds to eat the seeds. I really enjoy watching the song birds! I have the sweetes****ermelons and JB brought in a cantelope the size of a watermelon..Ive never seen one that big before....because of the mild winter we had, all the ehat and rain, everything is grwing like crazy and ripening early...so Ive done so many greeen ad yellow beans that my freezer is almost full..and now Im busy making tomato/meat sauce to freeze as well ( but I often just eat it as a soup...low calories and high protein). We never had farm animals because we just are too soft and cant kill them...so we have Zeus, our 145 pound rottie puppy and 17 outside cats and kittens (all are rescues) and the 2 inside cats, (also rescues). When I reach my goal, I intend to get plastic surgery despite my age. I never realized how much tissue they removed during my lumpectomy years ago until I lost all the fat in my breasts...now there's a definite difference...I can even feel the difference in the weight on my shoulders so its definitely something that needs to be fixed later on. Yes, I was very lucky, it was caught early, I had two surgeries, some serious complications with infection since it turned out that I was allergic to adhesive and no one knew..not even me! ...25 treatments of radiation...it took a year of my life in treatment but it sent me on a different path ..and now I am very involved in alot of community service and volunteering, cancer research-related charity events and I also illustrated a children's book called "My Mummy Is Sick"..a story about how breast cancer affects a whole family when mummy is diagnosed....it's for young children so parents can open the lines of communication because kids know when something is wrong even when they are not told the truth. Its 4:33 am...I guess Id better scoot up to bed! egad! Nancy B
