I have a new job!!!!!

I had two interviews this week & 2 job offers---yeah!!!! Of course, I had sent out about 15 resumes that I didn't get any response from. The first job that I was offered was as a part-time receptionist in a large insurance underwriters office. I asked if it would ever turn into full time & the woman went ballistic. I couldn't believe how nasty she was--needless to say I turned that job down. Now---for my job--I'm going to be a collection recovery specialist for student loans. So if any of you have ever defaulted on a student loan (mostly Sallie Mae loans, but they do handle others as well) you may be talking to me.lol. Don't worry, I'll be nice & accommodating. I was a customer service rep for Verizon for 25 years and collection was a part of the job. It's never a pleasant job, but it's challenging. The pay isn't great, but I'll be getting a base salary plus bonuses for achieving collection goals. I'm really excited about going back into the workforce full time. I've worked part time at a veterinary clinic the past 4 years, but I was totally burned out from it. (the euthanasia aspect really got to me). I start Sept. 5 so I may not be online alot anymore. Having the summer off has been the best thing that I ever did. I was able to take care of my weight loss needs, go to the gym, water aerobics, and shop when I wanted to. It's going to be bittersweet. Sorry this is so long, but I'm really excited. Thanks for reading!! Kathy

Congratulations on your new job. Glad I paid my few student loans years ago. I didn't default. Hope you like it. Karla

Good for you Kathy! I already went through that when I defaulted on a student loan years ago, but thank goodness it has been cleared up and now I am taking out more money! But I am more mature and responsible this time around, Karyn

Karyn, I think that's how alot of people default. They are just not mature enough coming out of college. The big world is scary & trying to figure out how you're going to support yourself is a hard thing to do. I hope I can be a good collection agent and still be nice. If I can't, I will leave--it's just that simple..lol. In 30 years of customer service I don't think I ever raised my voice to anyone. I should get an Academy Award for my performances. Kathy

Kathy, One of my friends mom's worked in student loan recovery for the fed. She was not nice though ... she would take their house, car and seize bank accounts. Congrats on the new job, have fun! God bLess! Jen

Jen, I could never do that! I would probably offer to pay the loans myself instead..lol This company (General Revenue Corp.) is a third party collections agency so I don't think they have authority to do anything like that. I was pretty good collecting past due accounts in my day, so hopefully I'm remember the secret to it. Thanks for your response. Kathy

Ronna, Thanks, hopefully I'll like it. There are 450 people that work there so I should make some new friends. Kathy
