I have a 16 month old, and my biggest concern for my surgery is leaving her while I'm in the hospital. I was wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation.

Thanks for your take on the issue. I know that my daughter will probably be better than I will. My parents will come up to help while I'm in the hospital. Part of the problem is my hospital is an hour away, so it's not like when my husband or parents come to visit me it will be easy. I weaned my daughter today to give her plenty of time to get a new sleeping routine that doesn't involve nursing. Like my time away from her in a few weeks this was very hard on me and no too hard for her.

I have 5 children, ages 13, 12, 6 and twins who just turned one. DH is going to take one week off, and the second week after surgery, I'll have other help. After that, I'll either have to round up extra help or wing it...not sure. But I digress. I am going to miss my baby girls as I've never been away from them (other than when they were in the NICU when they were born). I just hope I'm in the hospital for 3 days TOPS. DH will bring the babies to visit, at least.

You sure have your hands full. You said you'd have your husband bring the babies to the hospital. I thought I'd have my husband do the opposite. I thought it would be easier for my daughter to just not see me for a couple days than to see me in a strange place, and then have the trauma of leaving me again. What are the rest of you doing?

I have a 9 year old which I think will be fine if I am away for a few days. He has done sleep overs in the past. But my 4 years old has NEVER stayed away from home....(Im overprotective, sue me....lol). I think she might take it the hardest. And I dont have the privelege of leaving the kids with my husband, aka there dad. He had to move to a different city for a new job 6 months ago and can only get 1 day off. So I guess they will stay at my Moms. I guess I better figure something out soon, I only have 12 days left. Good luck January Buddies!!!! Kristi

My son is 8yrs old and I've told him I'm going to be away for a couple nights. He has yet to ask me where so I haven't said anything else. I was going to wait a couple more weeks before bringing it up again. He is a worrier so I'm still struggling with the decision on if he should come to the hospital and visit or not. He is used to going to his dad's every other weekend but as he says mom is always at home waiting for him. Now mom will be away and he will be here. Guess I still have a few more weeks to decide. Good luck to all my January buddies on your surgery!! Pam

I have a 3 year old little boy. He will be staying with my mom and dad for about a week. They will be bringing him to the hospital to see me. He only has stayed at my mom and dads house. They are a second home to him, so I wont have a problem. My husband is going to be with me all three days that I am in there, besides at night. He is going to come home and sleep. The hospital is only 10 min away from where we live, so it isnt that bad of a drive. I would trust my husband with my son in a heart beat. He is the kind of husband and daddy that does everything that I do. He cleans, takes care of dom (sometimes more than what I do lol) and he washes cloths, makes decisions like I do. He is a really good daddy. Dom loves him so much, and he is a daddys boy. I am going to be spending all day Monday (23rd) with him, and he isnt going to school all that week. I am going to just enjoy my 23 days I have with my son and hubby before surgery. I love them both, and I want to make sure they know that.
