Filter Surgery Tomorrow
Hey Sandra, thanks for the well wishes. A filter's purpose is to break up blood clots before they can cause major damage to you. My surgeon puts them in people that are over a certian weight (300 lbs.) or has a laundry list of co-morbites. I fall in the over 300 catagory.
Hope that info helps...

I'm having my filter put in on Jan 16th the day before my RNY.
The greenfield filter is an umbrella so to speak which catches major clots before they travel to your brain, heart or lungs.
I have had a history of pulmonary embolisms (clots in the lungs)
and that is why I am getting the filter put in.
It will not catch small clots but ones that could be fatal.
I feel comfortable about having mine done as one of the major complications of RNY is pulmonary embolisms.
My prayers will be with both of you having them done.
I'm looking forward to coming off the blood thinners in a year!
