Crystal Lite vs Walmart Brand
You know, today I just got all my clear and full liquid supplys for my pre op diet. I got the walmart brand of crystal lite, and it is yummy. I got every kind they had. I have tried the ones in the pouches that you pour in a bottle of water, it was good, but it seemed to be a tad to strong for one bottle of water. So what I did, I also go the ones that you mix with 2 quarts of water and opened them all and put them in a plastic bag, and used like 1/4 of a teaspoon of it (if even) and put it in my water and shook it. It taste awsome. So, that would probably save alot of money. May take alittle longer, but if I see this right, and am doing it this way, I wont be using so much. The pouches come 10 to a box (10 bottles of water) and the container has about 5 or 6 things of it, but each makes 2 quarts a piece. They were 1.76 here at my walmart. I also got tons of jello... SUgar free of course. My goodness, last time I remember having jello all they had was plain old normal flavors. They have tons of different flavors now lol. I got enough to last me a while.
Yup,
Got me my SF Jello's. I get a powdered lemonade and another flavor of a thing called Carb Control. It does not have aspertaime in it, rather it has Splenda. I found it in King Kullen right next to the Crystal Lite. I also made up two gallons of chicken broth and froze it in 4 oz containers.
RIght now though I am downing as much hot tea as I can. My winter cold decided to show up. Thank goodness, I have time to get rid of it before presurgical.
Enjoy the liquids: Only 20 more days for us!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was told by my nurse to wait till she tells me after my surgery (2nd or 3rd week) before I use Crystal Light (or any other brand). She will then teach me how to add just enough of it to color the water. They have sugar in them, and that will mess you up big time after the surgery. So please please be careful and try not to have the "dumping". She says that just coloring the water with the stuff will give me enough taste but not too much to hurt me. I am scared to death of this surgery, but I am ready for it.
Good Luck to you on yours.
Cyrstal Light and the Wal-Mart alternative are sugar-free drinks. And while they do add chemicals to your diet they are considered "clear liquids" and count toward one's water intake because they are zero calorie (or in the case of some Crystal Light flavours 5 calories) and contain no caffeine.
Of course as a Lap-Band patient I have no concerns about dumping - but I thought I'd let you know that Crystal Light (and the Wal-Mart mix) will not cause dumping because they don't contain sugar.
My doctor told me to try to stick with water the first 4-6 weeks. We will not be able to put too much of anything in our system so the first priority is water, protein shakes and broth and of course vitamins. He advised juice (crystal light) even though sugar free is not as good as water. So I will not be buying it for a long time.
