My food list for post op
I have been reading everyone's posts about going shopping for their food. I have not even started yet and I have a headache. What kinds of things do I need to buy? Jello, Crystal light, vitamins. I am drawing a blank. My nutritionist gave me a website to order my vitamins and protein. I am a procrastinator and have not ordered them yet. Are there any other places that I can go to get the protein drinks without going online to order them?
Stephanie,
Do NOT go overboard with your shopping just yet. Your taste buds may change with surgery. Many people find that they do!! If you can get samples or small quantities of things now, it would be best to do so. Your taste will settle back down to normal or at least close to normal after a few months.
You can get protien supliment at GNC, Walmart has some, just about any drugstore has some, but most places do not have a really great selection. I was told that SugarFree Carnation instant breakfast in a blue box and skim or low fat milk was a good source of protien for the beginning.
I am not stocking up on any one thing now, I am just getting all kind of samples and plan on keeping a notebook so that I can write down things I like and dislike. And I may try them again later, and see if I still like or dislike thime before I plan on buying a large quantity of anything.
Also, if you have a food processor or blender and are handy in the kitchen, you can puree some of your favorite meats and they will be high in protien. Just check it on fitday.com and it will give you the protien count. It is a free site and very useful.

*4 days to Nashville*
**12 days till surgery**
My surgeon yesterday advised me to have sugar free jello, clear juices, broth, water for the first week after my surgery. Afterwards to have protein (whey) drinks and vitiamins.
Before I leave the hospital after my surgery on Monday, they also told me that I will be having extensive training with my nutrionist.
I too am buying protein drinks, but sample forms, that way I can see what will appeal to me after the surgery.
Good luck to you.

the main things I was told (surgery 25 Jan 06) is to have my vitamins (I have the liquid) , B12 (pills tht goes under your tongue), calcium (chewable), broth, chicken noodle (just strain the broth out and DON't EAT THE NOODLES
) and sugar free jello. I was also told that I will get my prescription for pain pills and other drugs a week before the surgery. They don't want you in pain while waiting for the pharmacy to give you your stuff. As for Crystal Light, I was told to wait on that till possible my 3rd week. Like the others told you, don't go overboard on stuff. I got all my stuff at Walmart, and the people in the phamary will help you find what you need.
GOOD LUCK
Claudia
