Hi everyone! Last night I went to my first support group meeting... and ironically my last before surgery. It was absolutely wonderful! So many women there (we had one gentleman - he has lost 153 pounds since March!!!) with inspiring stories. It really did my heart good to go there.... there was a woman there who is the same age as me.. and she weighed what I currently weigh when she had her surgery 4 1/2 months ago.... and she is down 93 pounds!!!! I am almost counting the seconds at this point..... I am so proud of all of us for taking this enormously brave step to change our lives!!! Big HUGS!!!! Cherise

We are required to go to one support group meeting before surgery. I went to mine already and felt out of place because they all had their surgery done and I didnt. I will be happy to go when I am on the losing side.

I went to my first meeting on Tuesday. I was amazed at how many people showed up. The first part of the meeting was to celebrate those who have lost over 100 pounds. The second part was a lecture from the head of plastic surgery of the hospital. My surgeon's center expects and we all sign a contract stating that we will go to the support group meetings every month for the first year without fail. I like that. While I am not a rah rah type person, it does get you out of yourself and into the public for a few hours. Can you believe it though, we have less than 20 days to go!!! Sandra

I know. 19 days and counting. We have a good program here for the WLS. It is called Trim for Life. They also provide the gym for a year after surgery. Which is a blessing. I am going to want to go work out so much. My son goes to preschool, so I can use this time to work out. I feel so good going to the support groups, because they are battling the same problems I am.. I dont feel so backwards...

Hi everyone, I went to my first mtg before Christmas and also got a lot out of it. One woman was 4 weeks out of surgery and had tons of energy, looked fabulous. I was surprised as how many of them are still a *****ubby and never achieved their ideal weight. A few were talking about ways to get around the system and get in more foods if you know what I mean; that was a bit disappointing. At this point I get more from this site but do plan to go back because I love the leader. The format was wierd, everyone went around the room and told their story/woes/thoughts. It took the whole mtg. There were hundreds of handouts, a living resource library, which was wonderful. Ultimately I am thriving on the support and my therapist is delighted that I'm getting so much from it. It does make you feel like you belong and generates a lot of excitement seeing people's success and knowing what's ahead....and what to avoid! Best to all!! ~Tiffany
