What is everyone eating before pre op diet?
I decided to ease my self into the full liquid & clear liquid diet. So starting yesterday, I cut my self down to 1500 MAX calorie diet. I dont think I will get to 1500 calories today. I had an orance and a thing of yogart and a cup of hot tea for breakfast. Now I am having a cup of lettuce and a half of cup of cottage cheese and a thing of sugar free jello and a cup of tea for lunch. And I may have a reasonable dinner and a small snack. I am starving to death. I went to walmart today to get a nice big water bottle and OMG the food just killed me. I normally go to walmart and buy buy buy all this good food, and I stopped my self. I was almost in tears. lol I swear to you I was. But I stayed strong. i even got into the car and I saw beef jerky and didnt eat it. I told my self to stop being a baby and to deal with it. I figured if I start to loose some this 19 days before surgery, I will be alittle stronger when I get into surgery. I also been keeping my vitamins in.... Is anyone doing this?
It sounds like you could use some more protein. That may help you feel more full for longer periods of time, as well as build you up for upcoming surgery.
I'm cutting back in general, but I am also making sure I get my vitamins...and I'm adding special attention to protein intake. I'm adding protein shakes and they really help keep me full.
Also, trying to get the water in!

Hi there--I put myself on my own preop diet a little over 2 weeks ago, my surgery is on 1/16 and I figure if I can lose a little prior to surgery and be a little more healthy going in all the better! I cut out all sugar and starchy carbs..I have been drinking 2-3 100 cal protein shakes a day along with 1-2 pieces of fruit and then a sensible meal(low cal & Low fat)
So far as of this morning I am down 15 lbs so I am happy!! Ive been drinking lost of H2O and religiously taking my vitamins as well and I have been trying to get on my treadmill for 20-30 mins a day(my pulmonary doctor advised me to start doing that along with breathing exercises to strenghten my heart and lungs as much as possible before surgery)
Anyway good luck to you! Lori
My doctor doesn't require any specific diet prior to surgery (with the exception of the day before, which is prep day). He does encourage patients to lose 10 pounds or so to lighten up the liver for surgery. The psychologist wants me to keep a food log for the next couple of weeks before surgery and try to live in the future (focusing on protein, water & walking). I've read lots of profiles where people were on a liquid only diet for 2-3 weeks before surgery. I guess I should count myself as lucky that my doc doesn't require it.
Good luck to everyone on their upcoming surgeries.

I started cutting out all my addicting items, like soda. The food isn't so much a problem as I use Excedrin for my migranes and now I can't take it. The Santa Annas and change in temperature and pressure is just killing my head.
I've noticed that I am eating more meat and less carbs, I am also getting more liquids in. Saturday I start my liquid diet, and my husband is going to do it with me, his choice. I didn't really cut down on the type of foods, just the amounts.
::hugs::
