The last meal...

My surgeon says that if you're going to "pig out" on a last meal prior to starting the pre op diet, that's okay...sort of saying good bye to the old you. I was curious (1) is everyone is having a "last meal" and (2) if so, what is it going to be? Me???? Well, I'm not much of a steak gal...but I have this huge urge to go to a steakhouse here called "Longhorn" and have a salad, steak and baked potato, and a huge iced tea. We don't ever order dessert...by then we're stuffed. Just wondering what ya'll would have. ~Kim

I did my last meal things early on, so that I could start getting into the swing of things... I didn't want to go from a huge meal to nothing... However, Chicken and Dumplings was the thing I wanted and my husband made them... took him 1/2 the day! ::hugs:: Cyndi

I've been going thru my favorite dishes and restaurants for the last 10 days or so. My favorite Mexican restaurant is still to be enjoyed and on tomorrow night's agenda. For the last meal, I will likely have a chicken breast and some rice with salad to get in high protein and and unfriendly post op food. I know I have to have a BM before leaving the hosp even though I;ve done the bowel prep so lots of veggies and fiber here on out. On Saturday night I am also going out to dinner and will probably pick something that has french fries and then wa**** down with a nice margarita. The no garlic/ginger rule has made my food choices pretty bland since Christmas. But I'm not complaining, I could be on all liquids!!! Its hard to belive its just 5 days away! ~Tiffany 11 January

I'm on a liquid diet for two weeks prior to surgery and the "last meal" thing is not something my surgeon encourages so I'm not gonna do it. But I really really really want to! If I were to do it then I would want vegetable samosas, lamb korma with rice and gulab jamun for dessert with a nice bottle of Indian beer. But since I can't ... I guess I'll just splurge and mix a chocolate and vanilla Optifast together. Carole

I had my last meal before christmas. It was at Texas Roadhouse and it was a 16 oz sirloin, baked potatoe and salad and tea. I was miserable and satified ha ha

I've been eating things that I will miss the most like Sub sandwiches, margaritas...mmmm, Italian food and Steaks. It's funny but I believe my body is already going through a change because my stomach can no longer tolerate pizzas, spaghetti sauce or hamburgers...so I guess that is a good thing! If I do eat out I go to Jack's for their Southwestern Pita and eat the chicken and beans out of it...so hopefully when I am able to eat regular foods I can eat that again without the fries or soda of course My surgery date is 27th and I know my Dr's patient cooridinator frowned on the idea of having last meals but said that most people do it anyways but to make sure I quit at least 5 days prior to starting the diet so it's not that drastic of a change. I think it's just normal to say "goodbye" to the old and welcome in the new...lol. Kelli

My "last meal" was awesome. My husband and I went out with our best friends and I had terriyaki steak skewers, cheesey mashed potatoes and steamed veggies. I actually had a lot of last meals in the month leading up to my liquid diet, but that last one was the best.
