Just Checking In! One Week PostOp
Good morning dear ones!
Just wanted to check in and say hello. I am doing very well. Feeling stronger everday ----- Isn't that a song by Chicago?
My surgery went pretty well. Was able to have lap and only have 5 little tiny sutchers that are hard to find (unless you move "the girls") and one drain.
I did have one complication. I was fully awake and in my room in ICU when the Pulmonologist came in to inform he that I was in Respitory Arrest. HELLO!!!!
Here I was feeling good and chating with my sister and the nurses and I'm what?
When I told the nurse what he said she made him come back and talk to me cause she told him I was upset. You think? I had never met this guy before and he had no bedside manner whatsoever
.
I guess what happened though I'm still not sure, is that my lung partially collapsed during surgery. So I was on O2 while in the hospital.
Other than that the pain was not near as bad as I had imagined. I did have bad pain in my left shoulder but was told that was very common and from the gas that my stomach was inflated with. As of yesterday the shoulder pain is gone.
Only other thing is the drain is uncomfortable. I've been sleeping in my recliner so I don't have to roll on it to get out of bed.
Am getting weened off of insulin and it's not fun. Was running high the last couple days in the hospital so I was still suppose to use it when I got home. I have been having trouble keeping my blood sugar high enough
So it's been reduced 3 times already. My current dose is about 35U a day when I was on 120U pre-op also off both oral meds for the diabetes.
I have my first postop appointment late this afternoon. I will report back after that. Don't think I've lost much weight yet, still feeling very bloated. I can't walk as much as most of you and that is suppose to help.
Anyway one week post op and feel pretty good!
Regards and many hugs,
Ronna

Glad you are doing so well! Let us know how the post-op appt goes, Im curious because I don't see my do****il 3 weeks. I had to do a call check-in today though. How long do you have to have that drain in??? Let me tell you, you will feel soooo much better once it is gone. I almost kissed my doc when he pulled mine!
Thanks for the updates!
Hugs,
Beth
Ronna,
Thanks so much for sharing with us your experience. I was just writing somewhere else how some doctors just don't have any bed side manner. Maybe the pulmonologist was absent the day they covered bedside manner!!
Just do what you can with walking Ronna!
I'll be thinking about you!!
Best wishes
deb
Ronna~girl you are the bomb!!!
Keep up the good work and keep walking!!!! I went today and bought my vitamins and a protein drink that I will try tomm. Isopure seems to be the best when it comes to protein, no carbs, no sugars-woohoo!! I forgot the iron vitamin and calcium so ill go back out tomm. I am glad I started early....my brain is scattered less than 2 weeks away.
We all look forward to hearing more. Congrats, LOSER!!

I'm glad you are home and doing better. We had our surgeries the same day and like you I've been sleepimg in the recliner. The nurses took my drain out before I left the hospital though. I have an appt. with my doctor tomorrow, and hopefully he'll let me start soft protiens. Stay strong and bear with all the changes, because they are changes toward a brighter future.
Thinking of you,
Rose
