Hey there. I was wondering if you all know about what the lifelong risks/complications are from this surgery? 1, 2 or 10 years....are there risks? Thanks. Kim

There is risks with any surgery, but are we not taking daily risks with our weight right now, that's how I think. I am enroled in a study for gastric bypass surgery in Pittsburgh, it will last four years. This study will help people know more about the surgery in upcoming years.

Good question. My surgery is on Jan 24. I have recently heard that you can suffer serious, irreversible neurological damage if you stop taking the B vitamin suppliments. A friend of mine is a nurse and she just had a 34 yr old woman die one year out from the surgery because she stopped taking her vitamins. One other friend of mine is so scared for me because a friend has dementia because she stopped taking her vitamins. My surgeon's dietician said "If you stop taking the B supplements, you will lose your marbles" I think I got the message. I have heard that some people feel so good after the surgery they don't believe they need them anymore. This sounds like an important message to keep sharing with each other. This is a preventable complication that we have full control over.
