My surgery on the 9th...
went well, overall. I came home Tuesday feeling GREAT, but by Tuesday night I was completely naseaus and began having the dry heaves and was unable to hold anything down. Called my surgeons office Wed. morning, and they sent me to the OR since my surgeon was preforming surgery there. They held me for 7 hours! I had a fever and was dehydrated so they put me on fluids, morphine for the pain and anti-naseau meds. They took some xrays, did an upper GI, drew blood, etc. I started feeling great while I was there, and when they released me I was able to walk around the grocery store to pick up some food and different protein shakes (The Isopure would not stay down).
I feel ok today, I've been sleeping sitting up in a chair in my living room, and I feel naseaus each time I wake up, but I'm just going to keep walking and drinking water to try to relieve it.
Congrats to all who have had their surgery! If anyone has any questions, I would be happy to answer.
Talk to you soon

April,
So glad you're home and doing well now. Did they find anything when you went back to the hospital? It sounds like maybe you had a little bug and being dehydrated certainly doesn't help.
Try some mint tea for the nausea. Several people on these boards have suggested it to help that issue.
Good luck and I'll keep you in my thoughts to feel great soon!
Lisa
They didn't find anything wrong with me, other than (and this is very common) one of my intestines was distended (sp?). They said that this will correct itself in a few weeks. It was most interesting to watch the upper GI - I was actually able to see the size of my new tummy, the staples, and the liquid traveling through my body.
And I agree, post-op stories are hard to read, especially when you are so close! I just know that so many of these stories helped me to know exactly what would happen, and give me some insight to how I would feel.

I had my surgery on the 9th also, Deaconess Hospital, Dr Curry.
while i was in the hospital they were giving me morphine which made me
sick at my stomach.
They put a patch behind my ear. And the sick feeling was gone.
It is now the 12th and I am sick of clear liquids, hopefully I will be able to start something soon. I believe it will be on the 18th when I am scheduled to see Dr Curry again.
I was over doing it and was on the floor on my hands and knees and when i got up i heard something pop. It is sore around my drain but it is still working so I am assuming I am ok.
You take care and don't over do it.
Betty
Hi April-
My surgery was on the 4th so we are in the same boat. The only real problems I have had is A LOT of pain and I started with minor nausea on and of from the da after my surgery to what has now become more intense and frequent nausea. According to my doc this is normal however normal it is or isn't I am not that happy about it because right now it scares me to even think about throwing up due to the amount of pain. I read further to find that they had found nothing wrong and that is great...
I am also glad to hear that you are doing better now. I was wondering how things were going aside from that. I am curiouse to see how people outside my ring of friends who had the surgery the same time I did are doing and dealing with things. It is also nice to get a fresh perspective and make new friends.
You take care and hang in there, we have all made a very big step in our lives by having this done and it is one for the better. My favorite saying comes from a movie and so far it has been true for everything in my life
"Where it began, so it shall end!"
And here you might laugh but hey...
Sincerely,
April T
Thank you all so much for your well-wishes! I am feeling SO much better today - almost normal! My hubby made me walk up and down the block 4 times last night, then I showered and slept in my own bed (instead of the living room chair). When I woke up, I was so refreshed and ready to have a normal day. Don't get me wrong, there is still incisional pain, and the gas pain is the worst, but I am remembering why I did this - I AM READY TO BE SKINNY!!!
