I feel pathetic..ok maybe I'm exaggerating..
This is what I made for dinner for me tonight:
1/2 medium, shelled potato
1 TS of butter
1TS of cream cheese
1 fried No oil or butter) egg
15 grams of Padano cheese.
It totaled( according to FITDAY)
462 calories
27 FAT
22 carb
32 protein
So very PATHETIC!!
ok..feel better..lol...I didn't realize how hard it would be to have high protein low carbs!!! I have been surfing all night to get as low carb high protein stuff as I can. Right now I have food in my fridge and cuppard that was bought by well meaning family members..things like tuna..in oil...and..butter...LOL...tomorrow I will go shopping on my own. maybe I should drink a protein shake this weekedn to help with protein? Problem is my nut and doc want no shakes!
Here is what is on list for the Migro ( Swiss grocery chain). When I mean grocery I don't mean your local Winn Dixi or Safeway...most grocery stores here are Circle K sized..so imagin my delima...
On my list for tomorrow!
0 fat cottage cheese
low fat baby bells
some ground meat
low fat margerin
Anyway..I'm rambling. What kinds of food advnetures are all of you having?

I just don't understand how anyone is able to consume enough protein, particularly in the recovery period, without supplementing with protein shakes. They don't have to replace food, but as a *supplement* to food.
I think my surgeon recommends them in the recovery period but I plan on drinking them for life. Our malabsorption issue doesn't allow for us to absorb the nutrients from everything we eat, so I see it as a necessity. I have seen WLSers deal with malnutrition problems and I refuse to go there!
I hope you can find something soon! Good luck on shopping!

Hi Deb,
Dont feel pathethic, its too early in the game for that!! It sounds like you're doing great.
My nutritionist said to go for the low fat dairy versus non fat as non fat tends to have more sugars in it, the fat is preferred.
Suggestions: more turkey/chicken, egg, milk and beans. Beans get in both the carbs and protein, all in one food. I know that's a staple of the European diet. My experience is that white, black and pinto (in that order) produce the least amount of gas, white has always been the most common and yummiest offering when I've traveled that way. Beans mix well with everything - cottage cheese, yougurt that has seasonings, cheese, a bit of olive oil. Rinse that tuna to get out the oil and it will be fine.
Yougurt may also be a good option. My docs have a 'sweet 16' rule, 16 grams of sugar is the cutoff for any food. I cannot find a yougurt other than plain which has less than 16 grams! How pitiful! I think you will find something viable as Europeans dont process theirs as much as is done here. Milk is another good option and never forget that dairy/calcium burns fat!
Today I bought some turkey lunch meat, beans, lowfat cheese and sadly looked at all the spinich - I'll be missing that.
Hope this helps....
