I am a loser

Hello everyone. I had my surgery on January 19,2006. Surgery was uneventful. No complications. Dr. Daly was excellent. I went in at 7:30 sharp. I was in the recovery room by 10:30 am and in my room by 11 am. At first the pain was astronomical. I thought I could only use my PCA pump once every hour. My mom and husband took the button because the thought that I was using it too frequent and when the pain got just unbearable I finally called the nurse for something else. She informed us that I wasn't using it enough and from that point on, I was very comfortable. I was allowed to use the pump every 8 minutes. Oh the gas. For everyone that is scheduled to have surgery, walk walk and walk again. It will help alot. I am glad that I was forewarned on this website about the gas pains. I am finally home now and feeling ok. I woke up at 3am this morning in severe pain. I have been alternating my percocet with extra strength tylenol. I don't want to give out of the good stuff before I completely heel up. Is this a good idea? How long will it take for my stomach to heel? Well that is all for now. I will post when I feel better. Hugs and kisses to everyone that has undergone this surgery and also to those that are scheduled to undergo the surgery.

Congrats Stephanie on becoming a loser. I had severe gas pain for 2 days afterwards & then I was okay. I stopped taking the pain medication the day I came home. I made it a mission to walk walk walk, you feel much better. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Carly

Welcome home you loser, Stephanie!! Glad everything went well. My surgery was the 11th and I still take a pain pill when I sleep. Mine are a tylenol derivitave but super strength; the dr said he's rather I took them for awhile and increase my mobility, deep breathing, and sleep duration because all those thing make me heal faster and stronger. You'll have to decide what works best for you and the strength of the pain pills they provided. Walking really helps get those muscles working again. The gas lingered on for 3 days. At day 2 I had not yet had a BM so I called and they had me drink Milk of Magnesia - 15 minutes later I had the best toot of my life and 6 hours later everything was moving and grooving. As you'll see in recent posts, the important thing is DO NOT WAIT to call the dr if you dont have one soon. Again, walking is key! Feel free to write with questions, we're here with you!!! All the best, Tiffany

Your stomach will start the final healing process at 8 weeks, by 3 months, every thing will be healed, if there are no complications in that time frame. Sorry to here you had so much pain, I was up and walking as soon as they would let me out of the bed, about 11/2 hours when I got to my room, and had no pain meds what ever. But , did have to have benidryl after they did the the leak test because they did not tell me the dye had iodine in it, and I am allergic to iodine. This was the worest reaction I had to it, and I have been able to eat shell fish up till now, but I will not chance that any more. Well, hope you have a speedy recovery and your pain has lessened, and good luck with your classes starting Monday, I go Tuesday to get my things started, too. Hugs, Lynda
