7 Day Post Ops - Surgery 1/16
How are all of you that had the surgery 1/16 doing?
1.Is anyone hungry?
2.How are you meeting your protein requirements?
3.How are you meeting your liquid requirements?
4.Are you still on pain meds?
5.How much walking are you doing?
6.Have you done any other types of exercise?
My answers
1.I am hungry a lot. I think this is due to the pureed diet I am on.
2.Mostly, by using protein shakes and supplements.
3.Drinking lots of diluted tea (1bag - 48 oz water) plain water bothers me
4.No pain meds since yesterday
5.Haven't walked outside yet today - have gone up and done the stairs 3 times. I will Walk with hubby tonight when he gets home and can help witht he baby
6.I have "jumped" over the baby gated at least 12 times. ...has to count for someting .... lifting your legs three feet off the ground and jumping over the gate. I have done my air breather today, going to go do it again.
I'm a "Sweet 16er" and I will answer your questions!!
1.Not really hungery, but still get a taste in my head and want it
2.Mostly with meals, and some suppliments.(my stomach is not as small as even a regular DSer, so i can eat more, safely)
3.I have always been a big drinker, not alcohol!!, so getting in my liquids is easy, plus as a DSer I can drink with meals
4.On leaving the hosp. I was given Celebrex for pain and since they took my Naproxen for my artheritis away, the Celebrex works well and they want me to continue it instead of Naproxen
5.I am still in a hotel in Nashville and I have been bad about walking very much
6.NO

**Great questions, by the way!!
Hi,
I am almost 2 weeks post op.
1) not hungry physically, sometimes mentally. I think I eat more than I do once I review my log in sheet.
2) working up to protein, they said my goal within a week of foods is 65-70; I am getting something in the 50's. Cottage cheese is a big thing as well as my protein drinks, I have one that's 25g and then another 6 for the soy milk.
3) I have always been a water person and keep that bottle with me everywhere.
4) I have an occassional one in the evening, was more regular on them until late last week - about 8-9 days out. I am on darvocet which seems to be different than most everyone else.
5) walking a lot, have been since 2-3 days post op. I get in a mile to a mile and a half every other day and then tons just pacing the house. We had a snow storm here so I am going to Target, doing all the side rows then the long aisles by section, it takes me about an hour and I work up a sweat (and sometimes a bill....)
6) I am only allowed to wal****il at least 4 weeks post op, more likely 6. The Dr says there will be plenty of time to exercise, he wants me to heal without pulling anything.

1. I'm hungry, but I'm hoping it is just because I haven't made the switch to solid foods yet!
2. Protein shakes are helping me meet my minimum.
3. I'm doing O.k. getting in water, but I also drink every time I wake up at night. I have dreams of hubby telling me to sip my water.
4. I stopped my pain meds on Friday.
5. Not taking official walks, but I returned to my college classes today. Thats a whole lot of walking and I'm exhausted!
6. I am really wiped out with returning to school and I don't plan to go back to the gym until next weekend.

Hi Jen!!!
I am 2 weeks out.
1. About a week out I was not hungry, but my mind was playing alot of games. It also made it hard because people were bringing meals that looked so good and I was eating broth and jello.
2. I am making sure that I am eating enough protein with my meals.
3. One thing that I learned is to try to drink 16 oz in between meals. That has helped me get it in.
4. I wish I was still on pain meds. I haven't been on them for a little over a week. I irritated my pouch last Friday and oh boy I wish I could have had some over the weekend.
5. I have been following the walks. I walk four times a day. When I first came home I would walk as far as I could and then turn around and each time I go out now I walk a little farther.
6. If the weather is bad, I do walk away the pounds.
1. I've been hungry occasionally.... mostly only until I have something to eat. (Duh) Once I eat, I am satisfied for awhile. (I'm hoping that I'm spacing my meals out far enough...) I'll have to admit that the food my fiance "gets" to eat sure does smell and look good and gives me something to look forward to eventually!
2. I am getting some protein in with the "food" I'm eating and also by adding protein supplement and drinking Isopure ready made drinks.
3. Meeting liquid requirements by drinking water throughout the day and also in the juices/Isopure I drink.
4. I was given a prescription of liquid Vicodin, but haven't really needed it. The only discomfort I've had is some soreness on my left side where the biggest camera was placed.
5. I walked on both the 1st and 2nd day home from the hospital and did some light housekeeping on the 3rd day. Today I am rather tired, having had some trouble sleeping lately. Have been in my jammies all day...
6. No other type of exercise yet. We have a Gazelle that I want to wait to use until I feel comfortable enough with my abdomen.
