Hungry?

Is anyone else feeling hungry? I feel starved! Actually I vacillate from feeling ravenously hungry to nauseous. I am not a big eater in general, I just eat the wrong types of foods for the most part. I really thought that this surgery would allow me to not feel hungry though. There have been times in the past when I just have not wanted to eat at all...after surgeries, during my pregnancies, etc. So this is very surprising to me. Maybe I should just give it more time....I only had surgery on the 23rd. This chicken broth and sf jello ain't cuttin' it! Blech I can't start FULL liquids, protein shakes or vitamins until I get approval from my surgeon when I see him next Friday. One more week! Just complaining, I guess....and hoping someone else can commiserate. Thanks for "listening"! Chele

I feel you pain. I had to do liquids prior to surgery for three days and I thought I was going to die from lack of choices. I can not imagine having to go any serious length of time. I kept saying if someone invented some tasty clear stuff they would be rich. I wonder whatever happened to the Gum Wonka was making? You know the one that gave you roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy and then blueberry pie all in that one little piece of gum. My prayers are with you in your journey toward regular food. I know it is hard but you will get past it very soon. I know there is clear isopure drinks (fruit flavored) that have protien, but are considered a clear liquid. The choices are very limited and I can only think that your weight loss will be well worth it. Keep up the great work. Kristie

Thanks for the support, Kristie! You guys are great...I sure appreciate it. I was told NO regarding any form of protein, even the clear drinkable form. I'll just have to wait! Hugs, Chele

Dear Chele, Yeah.... I feel hungry sometimes. I had my surgery 11 days ago, so I'm allowed to eat more than you are at this point. I was in the hospital for 5 days because my white cell blood count was high (and they didn't know why) and I'd had quite a bit of nausea the first 3 days. My first "foods" in the hospital were water (HEAVENLY) and some juice. Then they graduated me onto some sf jello and some sf pudding. Just a couple bites and I was happy. I've noticed on this site that, depending on where you had your surgery and who your surgeon was, our "at home" food plans differ greatly. I read about people eating chili from Wendy's and beans and cheese from Taco Bell and I get incredibly jealous! (On MY food plan I don't get any of those delights until the 6th week!) For now, my greates delicacy has been mashed pototoes (that I mix with a little bit of chicken broth for a wonderful flavour). Jello also has a wonderful sf pudding (double chocolate) that I find to be absolutely yummy! Still, there's moments between my mashed pototoes and pudding (and Yoplait smoothies) that I feel hungry. Especially when commercials come on television! (This makes me think that a lot of it's just in my head.... HEAD hunger!) I try to do what is suggested in drinking a lot of water in between "meals". Not only does this satiate me for awhile, but it helps me get in my vital fluids. No.... you're NOT alone. I, too, thought I'd have less hunger than I've had, but I'll have to admit that I AM a LOT less hungry than I was before surgery. And I've lost 15.2 pounds in 11 days! Can't say that's a bad thing! ~Teri~ 311/279/263.8/140

The clear Isopure drinks that Kristie mentioned are FABULOUS! They taste good (in various fruity flavours) and have a whopping 40 grams protein per 20 ounce serving. They're available at GNC but are a bit pricey at nearly $4 per bottle. ~Teri~

Hi Teri, Thanks for responding. I asked my doctor about "clear" protein drinks and I was told NO. I may try them when I get the green light in a week though. I also bought some Profect and those are very good too. www.profect.com Chele

Hi Chele - Yes, had surgery the same day, and have experienced som hunger today, but the fluids - broth, water, crystal light and protein mixed in water have taken care of it. I mostly just miss real food. I'm tired of all this sweet tasting stuff (the Isopure is the nastiest stuff I have ever encountered in my life) would really like some refried beans with cheese and maybe some mashed potatoes, but like you, that comes several weeks down the road with my Dr. I guess I too did not expect to feel hunger for at least a couple of weeks, but everyone is different - that's what I've read over and over on the boards. But hang in there - this will only last for a short time and then we will again have a wide range of food choices, and it won't take much of them to fill us up! Sylvia

Chele,Last week I thought I was hungry but it turned out to be gas. I was in pain for two days! For me it's not commercials but the smell of food that is driving me nuts. Today I was in my local bakery and was near tears by the time I gotta of there. The smell of the fresh baked bread was overwhelming. When my mom makes her self dinner sometimes I just go crazy..lol... Thanks to the surgery I finally have the ability to say no. last week when I got sick..it was horrible, bad gas pains, nausea, extreme fatigue..needless to say I don't want to experience that again at any cost! It's not complaining! It's sharing, it's making other people on this road feel not so alone Deb

I'm not hungry at all Maybe it's the infection I'm dealing with. But I have yet to have any hunger pains at all and I'm almost 4 weeks out
