Hi y'all. I came home Wednesday night and the surgery went well. The morpheine made me very nauseous. Stopped doing the morpheine and felt better. Since home, I've been feeling pretty lousy. Much nausea, fortunately no throwing up. Ok...here goes vivid...I've been having black diahhrea for the last couple of days...anyone else? This seems weird as I have only been on clear liquids. I tried Isopure (which I liked), but was really nauseous; same with popsicles, jello, chicken broth... So back to water and ice chips. I have only had one vicodin in the last 48 hours, I have an anti-nausea patch on and am taking an oral anti-nausea pill. I was taking Tylenol yesterday as I was running a low grade fever. The temp is back to normal. Mostly I am sleeping. I know I should be taking in more water and walking more but the nausea is making it hard. I have definitely had a couple of those "OMG, what have I done???" moments. Let me know if anyone is having the same horrible nausea and the freaky diahhrea. I'm glad I can vent this here. Congratulations to you all! Jen

Oh Jen....thank you thank you for posting this. Yes, I am right there with you, right on down to the bathroom experiences. I am nauseous and feeling starved. I am running a low grade fever. My tummy is rumbling and hurts. Morphine made me sick in the hospital too...so I went off of it (after I had the allergic reaction to the other stuff in the epidural). I'm on Lortab which I think exacerbates the nausea. I was told to consume nothing outside of what was on the list. No protein supplements until next Friday (after I see my surgeon). I have had several, "What have I done?!" moments. I hope it gets better for us very soon!!! Hugs, Chele

Chele, I just thought I'd see how you are doing. I started to feel a little better this past weekend. I called my surgeon Friday night in tears because I felt so horrible and was scared. He talked me off the wall I started to take in a little protein drink on Saturday and walked around the block. I've made myself take in a little more protein and walk a little farther each day. I'm still really tired and lightheaded but it is so much better than the nausea. I really hope you are feeling better. Jen

Hi Jen, Thanks for checking up on me! I'm doing a little better actually. I'm definitely not as nauseous as I was. I'm not able to start protein supplements until Friday when I see my doctor. I think I'm going to feel so much better on full liquids and protein! I have lengthened the time between pain meds...so I'm taking less and I think that has helped the nausea. I haven't had any lightheadedness and I have enough energy (though I have been taking a short nap in the afternoon****ep telling myself one more day...one more day (Thursday..tomorrow!) of clear liquids. I am so pleased that you are feeling better! I figure it can only get better for us from here on out. Hugs, Chele

Hi Jen - I had surgery the same day; came home Wednesday also. I have the diarrhea thing - it started with my first and only bm before I left the hospital and I could tell it was very bloody. My doctor came in right after ( I had called the nurse to ask about it) and he said that was normal, as long as it was dark and did not increase. It has decreased a lot since coming home, but not completely gone. I think that is just the blood cycling through our system after surgery. I've also been a little bloody when blowing my nose. I have not had the nauseau - a little bit once or twice but it passed. I am still quite sore and hurt on my left side off and on - if that gets worses I will call my Dr. My incisions look good. I am still taking pain meds as neede. I had my Dr. prescribe percocett which I crush and take with water, or just chew up really good and take with water. I do think they are making me very cranky though. And yes, I have had several of the "what have I done" moments, which actually is probably why I'm so cranky. I've experienced hunger today, but the protein supplemen****er, broth and crystal light takes care of it. I think once we can start eating real food again the "what have we done" moments will go away. WE will get past this part and move foward to really be glad we did this. Just check out all the members on the main board who are so happy that they did. Sylvia

oh man jen, i'm sorry you're feeling so crappy. i came home on wed. as well. the morphine made me completely nauseous as well. i told my dr. not to give it to me, but he did anyhow. the first day out of surgery i was so out of it. i had the hiccups (and when i get them they last for HOURS!) i felt like a champ walking the halls of the hospital, once i got home it felt a bit harder. maybe because i have such a tiny house. i've had bm's, but from what i understand they're pretty normal. i can't stand the broths, jello is ok but i don't really want i****er gets boring after awhile but i'm doing pretty well with popsicles. i'm taking 5 mg of roxicet (liquid) for the pain every 4 hours, or as needed. i went to the grocery store last night and walked around there for an hour and felt GREAT when i got home. today i went to the mall and walked a mile and felt like POOP when i got home. my back is... not good. i don't have a recliner to sleep in, so i've been laying out on the couch. i miss sleeping with my partner. i haven't really had any of those "WHAT HAVE I DONE?" moments yet.... except when i smelled the chinese food in the mall, and various other things that i'm craving. but smells on my partners breath are making me sick!!!! if she doesn't brush her teeth everytime she gets close to me, i want to vomit! thankfully i haven't thrown up yet. what i don't understand is all the info my surgeon gave me before the surgery said sugar free liquid diet for 1-2 weeks, but upon discharge from the hospital they instructed me to have at least 1/4 c. sugar product 4 times a day. i've been having some gatorade and some juices and that seems to be ok. the gas is crazy. i finally got some gas-x today. on the package it says not to take more than 4 tabs a day, but darn, i could take 2 every 2 hours. but i always had gas this bad. just not so much bloat. did it hurt like heck when you got your drain pulled out? man, i don't know if the nurse just wasn't good, or if it was supposed to feel like that. man! it felt like some toxic substance leaked into my body. glad it's not there anymore though. i was surprised at how little my incisions are. three of them are an inch or less and the fourth is a little over an inch. and the hole where the drain was, well, that's tiny too! i just can't believe they can go in there and do all they did in such little holes. just remember no matter how many "what have i done?" moments you have and no matter how much you miss whatever your craving right now, it'll be so much more worth it in the end. keep your eyes on the prize! take care all ~liz

Hi I came home Saturday. So, I'm 8 days post op. For me, the 'exposive' dark dark BM's ended around Monday (so 5 days post op). I was ordered directly to protein drinks and liquids. Even so, the BM's are small (not much to pass I guess). But I definately had those 'what have I done moments'. In fact, they only stopped yesterday- when I felt better, could see the light at the end of the tunnel and got out and walked 2 miles. So, hang in there. One day at a time and it will get easier soon.

I got home on Wednesday, also. I have had the same gas problems and explosive BM's, but they seem to be tapering off. I am allergic to morphine, so didn't get any and haven't had any nausea or vomiting, thank goodness. I have been on a liquid diet, but that includes the isopure shakes (flavored up different ways) and cream soups and cereals, and I've been tolerating them pretty well. The pain does get to me sometimes, which is usually when I have those "what have I done" moments, but I am on Lortab and they don't last long, either. Each and every day gets easier and less painful and I am at the point now where I can truly envision a much better life in a few weeks.

I haven't had any nausea. The Ro****t worked wonders. I had to ween myself off. When I take 10 mg's I feel like I am alright and can do everything. When I don't take it, I sleep all day. About the Diarrhea, My surgeon called me to check up on me and I let him know about the diarrhea thing. He sad it was normal becaues of the Gastrograph? that he did during the surgery. Walking is excellent for everything that is causing you problems. Make sure that you are taking you vitamins and Vitamin C tablets every day and as the days go by you will feel better. I promise. Keep your eyes on the prize. By summer, we will be in a semi two piece. I am going to Florida for my vacation.
