has anyone had a VERY sluggish digestive system since the surgery??? I am feeling great with the exception of my plumbing not working correctly yet. I haven't gone since Monday, have taken enough laxative to blow up a damn. (Not all at once of course) and still nothing. I just feel full, I don't have any distress except for the worry that something might be wrong. My doctor did tell me that the large bowel shuts right down during surgery and takes a bit to fire up. I had trouble at first then was fine Saturday and Sunday and nothing since! I will be seein him on Monday but just knowing if someone else has gone through this might help me have a peacefull weekend --- and maybe relax enough!!

I'm three weeks out and and haven't had a normal relationship with the toliet yet. This is after years of a very [redictable digestive system. My doc says it is normal. I am noticing things are getting better now though! deb

THANK YOU, DEB!! I can deal with it as long as I know it is "normal". One of the first things that I said when I started to look into this surgery was that I had perfectly running plumbing and wasn't sure that I wanted to mess with it!! I am sure all is well. The problem is, when it goes this long, by night, you don't feel like eating much. THIS TOO SHALL PASS!! (no pun intended)

Pat, The only time I went was in the hospital when I had dumping syndrome from the upper GI drink. I've been home one week today and so far NOTHING. There was one time that I thought I had to but, nope: There I sat broken hearted, came to poop and only farted! But then again, I am still on full liquids. I guess I'm not eating anything worthy of that type of digestion yet. Dawn

A week without is dangerous, there's been posts of people with serious challenges that experienced this. Call your surgeon. Even with clear liquids there's reason to 'go' - the body sheds cells and fat naturally. I was stopped up for 3 days and finally could not handle it, they told me to take Milk of Magnesia, 15 minutes later I tooted and 6 hours later it all started to clear on out. Seriously, do not let this go on...

I am so glad you posted this! I was diagnosed with IBS 10 years ago, so I've never had a good relationship with the restroom! However, I was feeling extremely full as well and starting to hurt again around my incisions. I finally made the decision to drink lots of coffee, didn't help. So I tried the other things like milk of mag and that only made me gag. I finally was desperate and used half an enema.. Well, it helped... not get the poo out but I had a huge gas pocket that wasn't able to move. I feel great now! Last night I heard and felt things actually moving in my intestines!! So, I am hoping things will be coming out okay now. Good Luck! ::hugs:: Cyndi
