2 1/2 weeks post RNY having issues
Greetings All,
I came out of surgery (lap RNY) in an awesome fashion. I had no bruising or much pain at all. Starting yesterday (surgery was 1/10) I got really tired and everything makes me feel sick to my stomach. Even to just think about eating makes me want to gag. I feel yucky all the way around. I am sitting here feeling flu-ish but I have no fever or chills. I have not had to throw up at all as of today.
I have aches from right under my breasts mostly, but all the way from left to right. Has anyone been sailing and then found that they started to have these issues? I just feel sore all of the sudden? Today I felt like I was going to pass out. I went to the bathroom and had BM and then felt ok again. Why would this come and go/come on all the sudden?
I get my water and over 60 grams of protien every day. My caloric intake (limits not discussed at release) is between 600-700. I feel like I want to just lay down and sleep, but I know I have to get up and eat. I go back to work next week full time and an concerned about the way I feel. Anyone else haveing issues after feeling like a million dollars for a couple of weeks??? (My three week check is next Wednesday)
Any ideas would be great.
Kristie
Kristie,
Some of this is normal. Many people I have talked to are tired around week 3. Your body has been in shock! All of this change is catching up. I am almost 3 weeks and I went to bed at 7 pm last night. I was exhausted, and I didn't do anything.
I still have a little pain. Bound up by BM's is awful. Your stomach regulates your internal temperature. So when it senses things you can go into waves of ick feeling. It sounds a lot like IBS. I was diagnosed with IBS about 10 years ago and a bout sounds just like what you went through.
Go ahead and allow your body some rest. I woke up at 6:30 this morning ready to go. You may just need to change your routine to match your body.
Still I would send an email or leave a message with Doc, just as a precaution, they will probably wait and talk to you about it Wednesday.
If the pain is more than a 4 (1-10) I would ask to see the doctor.

PS take Adult Liquid Tylenol for the pain... it helps.
Kristie,
I had a lap RNY on 1/10 also, and have been feeling the exact same way this week, and have had a hard time trying to tolerate pureed/soft foods. Pouch takes a LONG time to empty - had alot of cramping. Felt as if I could sleep all day for the last three days. I will be heading back to work on 2/7. I didn't think I would need all that time at first, but I am starting to worry as well how I will feel when I return. I have also had those pains across my upper abdomen just under my breasts, and the doctor said there is still swelling in my abdomen. (Just because we were lap, doesn't mean they didn't do alot of tugging and pulling in there!) Doc said swelling should be gone in the next two weeks. It is good you are getting your protein and water in. I can get the protein with shakes and protein drinks, but am having a hard time with water. It just plain hurts when it hits my pouch.
The last three days when I was tired, I just gave in to it. I figured I must need the rest, so don't feel guilty for allowing your body that downtime.
Take care of you!

My surgeon has warned me about this. He said it's VERY important that you stay very active everyday. Your body is going through alot and losing weight at a rapid rate. He told me your body is thinking something is wrong and will slow itself down. So it was important to stay active.
I wish you well!!
