Can't Keep Anything Down - Help!

Well I am about 3 and a half weeks out and have been doing really well until Thursday. I am followed my doctor's menu and instructions, chewing everything into tiny bites and sipping my water all day. Then it went downhill. Thursday night my dinner of 2 bites of salmon, 3 green beans and two bites of mashed potatos came back up. I chalked it up to maybe eating too much. Yesterday at work I had a piece of cantelope as a snack, threw it up. (Mind you I have been eating the same amount of cantelope all week with no problems) Today for lunch I made it through three bites of mac and cheese and back up it came. I have my follow up appt. with my doc on Monday and of course I plan on asking him, but I wanted to see if anyone else had experienced this? I can not chew my food anymore then I am, its liquidfied and I eat so slow that I have decided that I may never again experience hot food! So frustrated! Beth

Beth - sorry to hear of the sudden challenges. You may want to do a day of liquids to get you thru until your Monday appt. Also, I find the December board helpful as they are ahead of us Januarians, perhaps a post there will bring more insight on others experiences. Good luck and let us know how you are doing. ~Tiffany

Hi Beth. I'm so sorry about you not being able to keep anything down. In reading other boards, I'm noticing a trend that some days nothing sits well, but the following days everything back to hunky dory. I would definately let my surgeon know about this just in case it is more than just a phase. Good luck! Jaci

Sorry to hear this, Beth. Can you keep clear liquids down? I read somewhere that if you have a day or two like you have had, to go back to phase one...Clear Liquids. If you can't keep water down, call your doc right away. It could be strictures or a blockage of the stoma (they'd want to scope you). Hope things get better soon! Chele

Hi Beth, I had the same problem. I called my doctor and he said to do liquids for 24 hours. That I could have ate something that had irritated my stomach. I also just got out of the hospital today. I had the same problem again but I couldn't keep water down. I had to be scoped and he dilated the opening. I would call your doctor just to be safe. It wouldn't hurt. Good Luck and get better. Jenn

Beth, Are you preceding your dinner or following your dinner with something to drink? If you already have liquid in your stomach, the food comes back up I've noticed. Also no drinking until after 15 minutes of the last bite. Maybe this is the problem?? ::hugs:: Cyndi
