No complaints from me!
My surgery was Wednesday and today is Saturday and I feel great. I advanced the the 'stage II' modified liquid diet this morning without incident. The first couple of days were spent with jello, broth and other clear liquids. Today I get to add cream of wheat, malt o meal, and pudding! Yum. I've had absolutely no problems. I only took the pain medication through Thursday night and haven't taken it since. I still take the Carafate, which was ordered 4Xday for 2 weeks. All of the vitamins chew well and stay down and I'm looking forward to the rest of the journey. I hope everyone else does this well!
Thanks Kim. When did you have your surgery that you got out yesterday? They didn't let you have liquids while you were still in the hospital? They brought me broth, apple juice (that I had to dilute of course) and decaf tea bags. I was up walking around the hospital a few hours after being brought out of recovery and I came home the next day. I hope it stays this easy...

Rosemary, they're making you wait quite awhile for cream of wheat! I guess each program is different. I was reading my patient info binder and it says that I will go to "stage III' which is soft foods after 2 weeks. I'm not in any hurry, but I do have to admit that the potatoes my husband picked up for his lunch at Arby's did smell quite good.
You're waiting for cream of wheat - I'm waiting for mashed or baked potato. Yum!
For the cream of wheat, I am only allowed 1/4 cup 3Xday of any "food". Right now those can be cream of wheat, malt o meal, sugar free pudding, yogurt (which I hate, so I won't eat that). The cream of wheat feels the best going down because it is warm, and broth actually tastes pretty good too! I bought vegetable, chicken, and beef broths and now they are part of my water intake.
Anyway, I make the cream of wheat sparingly because I don't want to overeat and I don't want to waste it either, so I put 1/4 C of water in a small saucepan and let it boil. Then I add about 3/4 T of cream of wheat and keep stirring, turn the fire to low, and keep stirring for about a minute. Then I take it away from the stove, add some Splenda, and voila! I've got 1/4 C of yummy cream of wheat. The warmth feels good when it goes down.
Stay in touch and I hope all continues to go well...
