Hello my fellow WLS friends, those who have had it and those who are waiting. So far this experience has gone quite well. Quick surgery, very minimal pain, I'm able to tolerate my proteins (yuck!), water, crystal lite, etc. No dumping (a little runny though, is that normal?), no sickness, etc. No longer taking blood pressure meds since surgery, etc. I am wondering, after not eating solids for over a week, what should I expect when stepping on the scale for the first time on Monday. I'll be having my drains removed and that will be my first weigh in since the Thursday before? I was just wondering what you're experiences were, what did you lose? Thanks. Kim

Kim, We are all so different, but I started at 315 and dropped 28 pounds since 1/3 surgery. I was down 20 in the first two weeks and then lost 5 over about 1 1/2 weeks, now I just dropped 3 more in the last 2 days. I will be 4 weeks post op on Tuesday and I am down 28.5 total post op. I have seen such a huge variance between people though, I don't know what is normal. I just remember a few of us all stalling after week 2, which was hard and for me, lasted about 1 week. Lisa

Don't get caught up into comparing yourself to everyone else. We are all different and will all lose at our own pace. As for me I was up 4.5lbs after one week due to the bloating and constipation. I see the doctor tomorrow and we shall see what we shall see. But I can tell from my clothes that I have lost inches and that's what counts Regards and hugs, Ronna

The gals have already answered your big question. As far as "a little runny though" yep that's normal. ::hugs:: Cyndi

Dear Kim, About the yucky protein: I cannot say enough good things about Isopure bottled protein drinks that you can buy at GNC (I actually found a bargain at The Vitamin Shoppe) and they come in 20 ounce bottles in various fruity flavours and contain a whopping 40 grams of protein per bottle! As far as weight loss: At one week out I had already lost 10 pounds! I am now on my 13th day and have lost 18.4 pounds. Tomorrow will officially be my 2 weeks, so I'll more than likely post again as to if there's any difference. I had "runny" bowel movements the first few days after surgery, but now I'm finding I'm a bit constipated at times. (I don't like that!) However, I DID notice a BIG difference after I had eaten some cream of wheat hot cereal the first time: We were out and about and Jeff wanted to stop at In and Out Burger for some "Jeff Food" (as I call it) and I was patiently waiting in the car. My bowels had ANOTHER idea, though, and I found myself swinging open the door to the burger place just as Jeff was coming out. "Gotta use the bathroom.... NOW!" I told him. Hope you're doing well. The pain will subside as each new day passes. You have to keep in mind that you just had some major surgery and the muscles, nerves and tissue are all getting accustomed. Bye for now! ~Teri~ 311/279/261.6/140

I don't know about the 1 week amount, as I haven't gotten there yet (had mine on 1/24). But, I do know that my doctor likes to see a 10% loss during the first month. So, for example, if you start out at 300, then you would expect to lost 30 pounds over the first month. Of course, as everyone already said, people lose at different rates, so try not to compare (I know, easier said then done). Lisa
