CPAP question

I have noticed in the last week that I've been removing my CPAP at night while sleeping. (never did that before) I figured it was uncomfortable and I may have been removing it. I had a strange experience a couple of nights ago, though. I think the CPAP was pushing air into my pouch. I woke up with a burp coming up, and the CPAP pushing it back down -- sort of felt like it was choking me. I tried again last night and had the same thing. Has anyone had trouble with their CPAP since surgery? Sandy L

I am soooo glad you posted this, I thought it was just a fluke. Yes, I have to clear my ears when I put it on and then in the morning. And feel like its pushing air into my pouch. When I first got that thing, well, I loved the quality of the nights sleep. Now it rip it off and never did that before. It keeps blowing open my mouth, too. I'll call on Monday as well! Wow, I hoped to get rid of this thing quickly and hope its happening. I travel a lot for business and Tuesday is my first trip hauling it. I was diagnosed just over the line of having apnea and they gave it to me as a short term Rx to improve my strength and health thru surgery. This is the best news of the day!!!!! For my Sunday weigh in, I lost 4 lbs this week for a total of 25.5 since surgery on the 11th. Wahoo!!! ~Tiffany

Tiffany, I didn't have trouble with my mouth opening before either, but it does now, and wakes me up as I begin hissing in my sleep! I am just hoping when I call the pulmonologist othis week that he doesn't want me to go through another sleep study just to titrate it or whatever. I am hoping they tell me I don't really need it at all anymore! Congratulations on the weight loss! You are a bit ahead of me. My surgery was on 1/10, and I have lost 24 lbs since then. I need to get more fluids in, I know that will help, it just hurts to drink most of the time. Take care! Sandy L

Thank you for posting this! I have also been very uncomfortable with my c-pap machine and have not used it at all the last two nights. I just had surgery about a week ago, but I am already noticing this very uncomfortable feeling you talk about. I am hoping it is becuase I dont need it anymore! Wouldnt that be great? Karyn

Karyn, That is the response I am hoping for as well. I am ready to get back to a more normal night of sleep without my Hannibal Lector (sp?) mask. Sandy L

I have to use a Bipap and it is automatic (I don't have to adjust the pressure) and haven't had any problem since surgery. However, I have been falling asleep before putting it on - accidentilly onpurpose I think.

Good point, Ronna, the cPap machines are supposed to be self adjusting to one's needs and not need reprogramming. Hmmmm. Lets post the feedback we get tomorrow...

Hi Sandy, I have noticed a change since surgery. MY Cpap is set on 13. I was always so good about putting in on before surgery, but now I feel like it's not helping me at all. A few nights I forgot to put it on and slept fine. I also have the ear popping thing when wearing it. Also ot feels like it is too high, that it's too much air.

Mine was so very uncomfortable after surgery and did not feel like it was helping at all. My husband (since we were in a hotel room after) was able to observe me sleep without it and he said I was sleeping great. No more snoring or gasping for breath while I slept. So I have not used it all week and have slept smoother and deeper then I have in years. ~Crystal~
