I run my own business, Designs by Chemaine. Last year it was a tanker year. I'm trying to figure out how to get my designs out there. I design jewelry. I actually can match almost any color or neckline and I work with the customer to design and create the jewelry they want. So, I've been playing around with having a jewelry party. Make some basic pieces and sets, have some snacks and invite people to come look at the jewelry, explain my business and hopefully sell some pieces or book some appointments to do some custom work. Is this something you would attend? Has anyone tried this? Am I barking up the wrong tree? Just trying to get a general opinion, so I don't tank again this year. ::hugs:: Cyndi PS those I do design for love the pieces, I just don't have enough clients!

Dear Cyndi, I think a jewelry party would be a great way to get your designs out there. I live in Orange County, so depending on how far into S.D. you are, I might be able to attend. I'm curious as to what price range your pieces are..... I'm not very "affluent", so I don't really spend a whole lot on jewelry and accesories, but I LOVE them! I was thinking.... advertising always seems to be a good way to sell your product. Have you thought about putting together a "brochure/catalog" of your designs? How about a web site? Just a thought! ~Teri~

Hi Cyndi, I love jewelry partys, unfortunetly I can't attend yours. (I'm in NY) I recently attended a jewelry party at my aunt's house & it was very successful. I would recommend a website or maybe a catalog. Take Care & good luck. Carly

I have no idea how to make this happen but maybe something web based where people can upload a picture of themselves - and you have standard shirt necklines they can match up...and then the jewerly piece. kinda like paper dolls of the internet. Paint stores are doing it, you can swap out colors and such. again, I have no clue how to make it happen but that's my wild idea. ~Tiffany

Have you tried posting anything on Ebay? Or even doing a search on Ebay for hand-made jewelry to see how other people are doing it? Another option would be setting up your own website if you have the ability to do so. One of my bestfriends makes jewelry and she's had some of the same sorts of issues. She absolutely LOVES making it just for the fun of it but doesn't have enough people asking for things. She was looking into setting up a booth at a craft fair at one point but hasn't done that yet. She did a posting on our intranet at work though and made a killing around the holidays! She has a digital camera and took pics so she could post them for people to see. Best of luck to you!!!!
