I was wondering what everyone is doing for an exercise program? I could walk 2 miles before surgery and not think anything of it and now that I am post op the walking isnt doing it for me anymore since I am bored with it. I know that I have to wait 6 weeks post op to work on my abs due to the fact I had the open RNY but anyone have any tips to help me get thru this boredom with just walking. I am still walking and I walk over a total of 3 miles in a day with the walks I take. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! -Sue 242/225/130

Hi Sue, I try to walk around for a total of 30 minutes a day. It is a little harder during the week when I'm at work. The weekends are easy because I can walk the mall. Carly

I joined a gym. Even though you can only walk at this point, using the tread mill might be the change you are looking for. Then when you are ready, the rest is right there for you.

Hi Sue 3 miles a day! Wow! I had surgery the same day as you, and I was doing 2 miles before and so I'm still doing 2 miles a day now. Though I have to admit, I don't have as much energy as I did before surgery. But I don't think I could pull off 3 miles. My brother bought me a walkman/pedometer before surgery and I find that listening to NPR in the morning on my walks works for me. Also, we joined the Y and there are tons of moms all shapes and sizes doing everything, walking, swimming, step aerobics, treadmills, steppers, etc. I can't wait to start eating more food (more calories) so that i will have energy enough for step aerobics. Maybe there is a good Y by you. Judie 280/?/140

My suggestion is to examine and focus on your form. There's more to walking than putting one foot in front of the other if you want to maximize the benefits. Posture, arm position, stride - all of those things can improve the results of your walk-out and it keeps your mind active and focused during the process. I did this a year or so ago when I got bored wtih walking and nothing else was really feasible, it renewed the interest and helped me a lot. Good luck, ~Tiffany

Hi Sue, I am walking my 2miles a day currently. It takes me about 45 minutes and actually since surgery it takes me 1 hour. I also bought a hand-weight set today. So now i can start lifting some handweights, like 2 lbs! My upperbody is so weak, my arms get tired when i have to do my hair! If your able to, i would join a gym. Good luck! take care, erica

I'm waiting for clearence from my doctor and I will be doing water aerobics for Fibro Patients. Doing crunches in the pool is nothing... well, until you get out. I lost 55 lbs last year doing them... I need to get back into it. ::hugs:: Cyndi
