Hospital bill came today...........
I about fell out of my chair. $43,000!!!! Holy cow, I wasnt expecting that at all. I guess it was due to the fact that I ended up staying 6 days and had a CT scan. At least my husband didnt have a fit, he just said not to worry about it. We only have to pay 20%. But thats still around $8,000. Anyways, just needed to vent.

Funny this came up, I just opened mine. Good old Alta Bates Summit in Oakland, CA has decided my 2 night stay and surgery is worth $91,408.84! Oh, and this doesn't include the surgeon's fee. I know Health Net won't pay anything near that as they have negotiated rates and my co-pay is only $250. What do these bills really mean anyway?

WOW! I have not gotten my bill yet, that all sounds a little scary.
The reason they send those to you is so you know what your portion will be (percanteage. co-pay etc.) My insurance has a max out of pocket expense so I even got them for Cr Bills. I have to pay 1,000 max per year out of pocket and then it is covered 100% so after all the Dr and tests I will owe about 350.00 for the surgery at my last calculation.?? We will see.
Best of luck

OMG Kristi, wow thats alot of money. I still havent gotten my bill but I know it wont be over 1500.00 since that is my out of pocket for the year and all other charges are covered except the pain med I got the day I was discharged and that was only 10.00. I am afraid of my bill and havent got it yet. All I can say right now is thank goodness for cafeteria plans thru employers!!!!!

Shocking, its all just shocking.
My hospital bill was $30,000, the most expensive item was staples. these people need to get an account at office max. That was over $12k of the charges. Are they made of platinum?!!
The surgeon was another $7k and then anesthesia was another $2k.
Unbelievable. Our health care system is definately broken.
I got mine last week,
It was $48K + change...
but that included a second laproscopic surgery to fix a bleeder
and a day and a half in ICU
OUCH!!!
THANK GOD FOR INSURANCE...
AND THANK GOD IT'S 90/10
I'm a single mom on a single income.... any more would really hurt!
But I'm going to be healthier and live longer!
Amen.
