I was looking over my surgeon's suggestion menu and I see whole wheat TOAST (with toast in caps/bold). Is there something about toasting bread that makes it OK to eat? I could email my surgeon's office but I thought you guys would reply faster. thanks! Bridget

Bridget, Me and my DH asked the same question because it is on my phase 1 foods, and the response to this was, What happens to bread when you toast it? it crumbles right! So that is what is going to happen when it goes down in very small pcs, unlike a plain piece of bread non toasted it would swell up and most likely get stuck. I am no dr by any means so please email your dr if you dont understand....take care and hope you are doing good.. Tina 269/248/140ish -21pds in 10 days

My dietician gave me a book and this phase has toast (white, low-fiber wheat) - listed just like that. I haven't tried it yet but I know other people who eat white toast. I don't think personally I am ready yet but maybe I will be soon enough. Julie

i'd be careful with the toast if you're going to try it. things i thought had to be moist for them to pass easily through the tiny opening to the pouch. i guess i'd just chew it really well. but toasting does seem more sensible than not. i guess whatever your surgeon says should be fine. i'm not even allowed toast on my phase III diet!!! i guess i'm just jealous cause i LOVE toast! good luck! ~liz
