Why am I worried?
Hi Friends,
Ok, here is a really crazy thing. I am really worried that I have not gotten sick. I know this sounds loopy, but so far I have been able to tolerate everything I have eaten or drank. I am still on pureed foods, but have had potatoes, won ton soup, cottage cheese, meat, and even chicken. All pureed of course. I have had occasion to feel really full and some slight problems with my bowels, but nothing major so far. This worries me because I don't want to be one of those people who can eat whatever she wants. I want to get sick if I eat something with sugar or too fatty. It will keep me honest. Also, even though I am only almost 2 weeks post-op, I am eating about 5 oz. of food now instead of 4. I am getting my walks in as the dr. ordered, but probably not enough water. Should I be worried??? How is it going for the rest of you? Thanks!
Rosa

Hi Rosa! I have the same feeling and can tolerate the same foods (haven't tried won ton soup though). Although I can only have up to 2.5 ounces comfortably, I'm afraid one day I'll stretch the pouch and end up spoiling it. I have had one incident where I wasn't able to weigh my food and ate to quickly. Oh my go**** was horrible, I ate too much and had relieve myself about an hour later. But so far, I haven't had any trouble... I would love to not be able to eat anything and everything, but I'd rather not test the waters right now with any sugar or high fat foods until maybe later
I am definately not getting enough water in... maybe 20-40 ounces a day, and it varies. I'm getting my vitamins, though so I guess that's ok. When you move onto soft foods, please remember to chew chew chew and take your time. I don't wish what I felt the other night onto anyone in the world. It was horrible! LOL
Good night!

Rosa,
You echo my same thoughts! I have a micropouch (2ccs...the size of a grape) and so far, I have been able to eat more than I thought in a shorter time frame. I sit here and wonder if there is a problem!
I really think that since we are such newbies, we'll eventually learn just how much we can tolerate and what we can't. I constantly tell myself to be patient and give myself time to adjust.
I am not getting enough water in and I know I have to work on that. I'm logging my food intake at www.fitday.com and so far, getting my protein in and doing well otherwise.

Hi guys,
Same with me. Tolerate everything- even chewed (to death" a cashew today. no isses. I did have some 0 sugar cheese soup and although it stayed down, it didn't stay in long
Still on pureed, and like you not anxious to test the sugar limit.
I can do about 2 tablespoons and that's all. Fitday is awesome!!!
Good to have someone to share all of this,
cj

Remember liquids and puried foods will start to go out of the pouch while we are still eating. If we eat slowly enough, the pouch is emptying while we are filling it. Right now that isn't a problem, down the line this will allow us too eat more. It is the overfilling that is a problem.
I too don't get sick on certain foods yet. Thought I did on eggs, but they are ok now. Haven't tried sugar, not interested. Same with fats. But I seem to be able to eat meats fine.
I wonder if I have had all the changes the surgery was suppose to make. Like did it actually bypass or such. Strange huh?
Hi Rosa - RNY on 1/23 - I have not gotten sick either, but I'm not too surprised. Before surgery nothing made me sick either. I did have my first bout of nausea last nite that lasted about an hour - not sure what brought it on unless I drank my muscle milk too fast - it is kinda thick. I can only eat about 2 ounces comfortably; any more hurts, and since I don't really get hungry anyway, I figure why even try to eat more and risk stretching my pouch. My problem is the calcium and multi vitamins - I hate the flavor and having to chew them and can't wait to be able to just swallow them.

I have not gotten sick either. I have had some really high fat soups (still on full liquid) like brocolli/cheese soup , potato soup and tomato basil. None of these have made me sick at all. My Doctor is a big believer in not "dieting". He feels like we should be able to eat "normally" but in tiny amounts. I guess I can see his point. One peice of pizza is better than an ENTIRE pizza. (not that I have tried it)
Hi Rosa,
I sympathize with you. There was a time I was convinced that my doctor only opened and closed me up to trick me into thinking he did something. I agree with what others said with the liquids. I was able to take about 4 oz and didn't even feel a full sensation. I'm starting to feel it more now with the pureed foods. But as far as dumping or anything, I haven't had anything happen. Yesterday at our super bowl party I even ate 1 M&M and didn't feel anything. That scares me because I know myself and I am afraid that if I can cheat, I will. I guess we all have to stay on top of one another throughout this journey.

Rosa-
I felt the same way for the first couple of weeks. Everything went down and easily. I ate way more than I thought I would be able to. Then I moved onto soft protein and all I can say is be careful what you wish for. I am now getting sick daily and can barely get in a couple tiny bites of anything. I don't know if I'm developing a stricture or if with the denser food it fills you far faster. I can eat maybe a teaspoon of solids before getting ill. Don't get yourself stressed yet. Consider you are still probably getting less than 800 calories a day - a far cry from what we used to eat! Good luck!

I am with you on that one, Rosa! I too feel like I might be able to eat too much. But that is where the similarity ends. I finally started getting the full sensation about 8 days ago but now at this point it seems like I am throwing up every evening. I had a bad day on friday when I had two nibbles of Beef Jerky and felt full all day. Even after I threw it up. I didn't eat anything, even drinking water hurt. But then this Sunday I had a few things that I thought I would never be able to eat: fresh guacamole, french onion dip and a choco chip cookie.
I was hoping the sugar would make me sick and it didn't. Now I'm worried! So today it's protein shake and yogurt all day. I have an appt on Thursday so I will ask the doc what the deal is. Best wishes to you!
Dana
