Counting Calories/Protein?

Are you counting calories? If so, how many does your doctor recommend you have per day? If not, what are you specifically counting, if anything (protein, carbs, sugar grams, etc.?). For the past few days I have gotten in roughly 700-800 calories per day, and my protein has been anywhere from 60-90gms. My surgeon hasn't mentioned calories at this point, but I know I'm supposed to aim for a target protein range. I also have to keep sugar grams limited to 4-6gms a meal. Just curious what others are doing! Chele

I've just been watching the protein. But I put everthing into fitday.com so the calories come up. My average is 725 per day with protein at about 65-75g. At this point I'm still not hungry though and having trouble eating in the mornings.

My focus is on protein, the goal 65-70g per day which I am achieving, usually but not always, with a protein drink. I cant have foods with more than 16g of sugar per serving (the sweet 16 rule) but I am finding that anything higher than 6-8g of a processed sugar makes me feel queezy. Excessive fat is a no-no but they want me to have the good fats in moderation and choose low fat dairy products. I also have to consume 60oz of water a day.

I had my visit with the Nut last week and asked her the same questions. She said she was not worried about excess calories, but mort people are going to have up to 900 calories a day. I am averaging between 700-800 per day. So I am in that range. She is only concerned I get: 60 grams protien per day 25 grams of fat minimum Vitamins Water Everything else is bonus. Krisite

No one at my doctor's office has mentioned calories. They push hydration (64oz.) and protein (60-70gm). I usually do well with both of these and am getting between 400-500 calories according to fitday. I'm just 2 weeks out, so my pouch is still really small. I can only eat 1/2 egg at a time right now, so my calorie intake from food is pretty minimal at the moment. Lisa

I don't think that doctors recommend it too much, but I could be wrong. But if you're like me, I go back to the old school of dieting, which is the counting of calories. I guess these days with all the hype on carbs, good and bad carbs, and now trans-fat, you still really have to find the long term dieting plan that works for you. For me it will be counting calories, food groups intake, and support groups (internet and in person). Does your doctor's office deal with a dietician? You could probably call them and get info on what they suggest a calorie range for you should be. Good luck

I have talked to the dietician several times, though I haven't been advised to consider calories, at least at this point in the game. Perhaps I'll ask the next time I talk to them. I was just curious as to what everyone else has been told. Chele
