My doctor only wants me to walk for the first 8 weeks after surgery-- I am walking 1-1.5 miles 2 times a day--is this enough or should I be walking more--the other question is when I am using my treadmill how do I know if I am walking at a fast enough pace to make it worth while??? I dont want to overexert since I am still healing but I dont want to walk 1.5 miles for nothing either--any advice would be appreciated--thanks Lori

My surgeon didn't push the excersise. He said to start slow and just try to increase a little bit every time. I'm up to a wopping 5 minutes on the treadmill. But I started at 2. So I've more than doubled at this point. Just keep trying to do a little more every day and you'll do fine.

I was told to walk at least 15 min. a day. Distance depended on how fast. Cardio is what you are asking. Just keep increasing your speed on the treadmill a little at a time. You have to keep increasing cardio or your body gets use to it and it doesn't do you any good. I would say if you are comfortable at what you are doing, then you are doing fine, if you feel you can do more, then do more. Walking will only help you. Your body will tell you if you are over doiing it, so listen.

I have had the same directive from my surgeon and I walk enough to get me a bit winded but not exhaust me. Go with what feels right for you and dont pu**** in the healing phase. If you want a challenge, focus on your form and stride as these are two variables that can make walking a better form of exercise. Partner in walking..... Tiffany
