Hi everyone, i have kind of a personal question to ask, and hope you all don't mind. Prior to WLS my husband and I were trying to concieve #2 for 2 years with no success. I mostly blame this on my huge weight gain from the birth of my first daughter, but also strongly feel being on DEPO for four years didnt help....so my question is, what are you all using for birth control? I have to find something until I am given the ok from my surgeon to try again, but really dont want to go with any type of hormones again, and as embarrassing as this is, I have only used shots or pills for BC, what are my other options? Thanks so much for all *****ply, (sorry if I have offended or embarrassed anyone.) Karyn

I use the NuvaRing and I love it. You insert it and in three weeks take it and insert a new one a week later. It is awesome, I can't even tell that it is in there. It is easy to insert and it doesn't matter how it is put in, it just stays in the vagina and doesn't come out. You can check out there website and they even have a free trial one that you can get. Good Luck!!! Jenn

Jenn, They don't have weight limits on the nuvaring? I know that the patch has one. Dawn

I am a big fan of the IUD too! When you first get it places you might have a really strong period but then its all good... and the FDA just approved it for people that have not had kids yet...so any one can get it now

Hi Karen- You must have read my diary. DH and I were trying to conceive for 2 years prior to WLS. Infact, I had put off WLS during that time thinking I would prefer to have a child then have WLS. Well, my plans were aparently not God's plans. And I too blame my weight as the reason we can't conceive. So, WLS was bumped up in priority. I'm 41 and the Dr. says I can't even consider conceiving until 18months out. DH and I practice abstinence the second two weeks of my cycle. But I think I'll check into that nuvaring. I'm not a big artificial hormone person either. I have a diaphram tucked in the back of my closet, but I bet that thing is so old, it has probably disintegrated by now. lol.

Karyn, You may want to consider going to the Post-op Pregnancy forum and find out what Birth Controls did not work for them if It happened while they were taking B/C. It is my understanding that oral contraceptives do not work as well post-op and we have a higher risk of getting pregnant. My surgeon told me not to even think about it for 12-24 months. Good Luck!
