The RNY isn't working! Depressed, discouraged, and stressed out!
I am so stressed out and upset. I think that I am one of the few people that RNY doesn't work for! I had my surgery on 1/31/06. It has been 20 days and I have only lost 13 pounds which was all lost during the first 2 weeks. The scale has not moved in 6 days. UGH!! I thought that you couldn't do anything wrong in the first month. Everyone else seems to be losing weight at a much better rate. I am 5'6" tall and started out at 270 and now I can't get past 257. Is this it? Is this as good as it gets for going through all the PAIN I had? I have been trying to read the messageboards for comfort but its just not helping. I have done everyhing that they told me to do. I get at least 60g of protein a day, drink my water and some milk, take all my vitamins and supplements, and walk when I can. I seem to be averaging around 700-800 calories a day. I use fitday.com. How can I not be burning something off? Thanks for letting me vent.
Dana
I completely understand where these questions are comming from. I had a stall that started on week 3 PostOp and lasted an entire month of absolutely no pounds lost. I finally went to my surgeon, where I was reassured that nothing was wrong.
So long as you are doing everything right, the weight will come off eventually. I just started losing again this week.
This will work. You are doing well. Just have to wait for it. Don't get too discouraged, just keep on getting in your protein, water, and excersice.
Hi Dana,
I encourage you to hang in there and have faith. The weight did not come on overnight and it wont go away overnight. The body needs to adjust to the surgery, healing and new caloric intake - we've all been going thru stalls and frustration. It helps to look at profiles for the Dec and Nov boards, some are faster/slower losers than others but they are all moving along so it does happen. Stalls are part of the process all the way to the end.
Put away the scale and start living life, thinking about other things will help. Soon you'll notice the inches coming off as your clothes get bigger and it will progress from there. And keep with us here on OH, we're all going thru the same issues and it helps to have the support. vent anytime....
All the best,
Tiffany
OH, MAN~
GO back and read some of the discouragement threads!
You are NOT alone!!!
I lost my first week, and then was basically stalled until last week.
I was "stalled" for close to 5 weeks... losing 2 pounds, gaining one, losing a half, gaining two, losing one, gaining a half, losing one, gaining one....
I felt sunk.
I was mad at myself, that I couldn't even make this work!
I wondered if I had stretched my pouch already?
I wondered if I was eating enough?
Was I drinking enough?
Was I eating the wrong things?
What was wrong with me????
Last week I finally began losing again. I wasn't doing anything different, just tredging along, eating, drinking, and doing what they had told me to do.
Give it more time! At least a few more weeks...
(((((This is what I told myself...)))))
"Besides... what are you going to do? You can't go back to eating the old way, you'll only make yourself sick..."
{{{hugs}}}
Best wishes!!!

Hi Dana!!!!
Don't sweat it. I know that it is not easy to not think about it. I had to start only weighing myself once a week and no more. And that is hard too!! One thing that I believe is that excercise has to be done daily. My dr makes his patients walk two miles at two months out. He also believes that excercise helps alot. I know it seems hard to get exercise in but break it up throughout the day, if you cannot get it in all at once. Don't worry it will get better. Just keep doing what you are doing.

Hi Dana,
Step away from the scale!!!! You had surgery, you didn't swallow a magic bullet. Your new tool will work but you have to give it time. It took time to gain all the weight and it will take time to loose it as well.
I actually gained weight my first two weeks after surgery due to some complications and now things have turned around and I am losing nicely.
Just work the program and most importantly don't give up. But get away from that damn scale....it will make you crazy
. Work on getting in your protein, fluids and excersise and you will do just fine....I PROMISE
I also went through New Self and they are the best.
If you have questions or conserns don't hesitate to call them.
Regards and many hugs,
Ronna

Hang in the Dana!!!
I had surgery on the 3rd on January and quite frankly stayed away from here for a while because I was feeling so discouraged when I read the success that everyone else was having. I was feeling like you do, that I was the one person in the world that this was not going to work for.
I stalled after losing about 12 lbs. I was so upset and discouraged until last Monday. I went for a follow up visit and found I was only a few pounds behind the girl who had surgery the same day I did. And you know what, I noticed that I have started losing since then.
You will get there and remember that EVERYBODY is different.
Dana,
We had surgery the same day and we have lost about the same. I was 272 the day of surgery and I'm now 258 for the last 8 days. I'm just riding it out until my appt on the 8th to see if something is wrong. I think that it just happens that way sometimes. I know that I am eating right and drinking all the fluids I can so I'll just wait. People at work are saying that I'm losing so that does help me keep going. Wishing you well.
