AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
I'm frustrated and need to vent!! I went to the doctors yesterday all pround of myself for loosing 34 pounds since Jan 16th. He walks in, puts down his pen and says, "let me tell you why you didn't loose more weight. You're not exercising."
I said, "Yes I am!"
"Every day?"
"Well, not EVERY day, about 4 times a week."
"Yeah that's what I thought. You need to exercise more."
I have to go back in 2 months and he wants me to loose 4 pounds a week for the next two months (32 pounds). He also wants me to join the gym TODAY and start going daily.
Honestly, I'm cool with all of that. I wanted to join the gym anyway; I'm just flustered that he had expected more out of me than what he got. I thought I was doing a good job.

Dawn, 34 pounds is DAMN GOOD!!!! How could he say something like that? He's supposed to be encouraging not telling you what you're doing wrong when you're not. Every patient loses differently, so he really shouldn't be giving you the cold shoulder on this
. And I mean, you don't HAVE to go the gym every single day. You do what you can. There are people that go to the gym everyday and still don't lose a pound. And to put all that pressure on you when the mere "rules" of surgery are enough pressure as it is. If you don't make HIS goal of 4 lbs. each week...that's okay, and as long you're happy with your weightloss. That's what matters. Hope you feel better about this. And remember you are doing an excellent job
!

Thanks April
I was really having mixed feelings about it all. On one hand I know that I have someone to hold me accountable for my actions, which is good. On the other hand everyone enjoys hearing "well done" every now and then.
He gave me his philosophy on why it is imperative to get myself in gear now during the "honeymoon phase". He said he sees all to many times that if a patient doesn't reach his/her goal weight in 18 mons they actually end up regaining some of the weight.

Dawn,
BIG HUGS!!! You are doing EXTREMELY well! Don't let the negative attitude discourage you. In fact, my dr told me that at 2 weeks post op and only down 19 pounds at that time that I was doing better than he ever imagined and to keep up the good work. Also to not join a gym or start doing anything other than walking until I had completely passed my 6 weeks of healing time.
Just take a deep breath! You are doing AWESOME! YOU know what you are doing... so keep it up!

Hi Dawn,
I agree with everyone's points that you're doing great and to keep up the good work.
And lets all remember Cara's point - when challenged on exercise, ask how many times they went to the gym this week.
Personally, I am not doing anything more than long daily walks and a busy routing but know that my treadmill is downstairs and calling me.....its time for me to start. Know you're ahead of many of us!!

My Doc says I am doing great at 25lbs. in 6 weeks. He doesn't want me loosing more than 10lbs. a month. He says anything more can be unhealthy. I told him I would like to loose 4lbs. a week for the next month, using my honeymoon time while I get use to eating food again. He said not a good idea.
Oh and I go to the gym everyday, do cardio and weight training. I also get 70 g. of protein in and about 800 calories a day. I am down 28 or 29lbs. at 7 weeks now.
Also, when you start the gym you will put on muscles and that will look to slow your loss too, muscle weighs more and takes up the room or the fat, although not as much room. Take your measurements and show that to him next time. That will show more.
I lost 15 lbs. the first week, then I lost 6 the next. Somehow gained 4...no idea I could barely eat anything! I've since lost that 4 and no more since. So it has been almost 2 weeks with no further loss. I am on the verge of tears everytime I step on the scale. Everyone I talk to keeps telling me that your body needs to catch up, but I am getting really annoyed. I was expecing to lose 30 lbs. the first month.
BTW...exercise, my dr. said no working out for a month. He said just gentle walking.
