UTI Question
Okay, so I think I have a UTI and the nurse was great enough to start me on medicine before looking at the test results, because the medicine can't hurt me if I don't have one.
When I did the U/A clean catch, I noticed little orange things at the bottom, not round. So I started getting scared about kidney stones, etc.
I looked around on the internet and found that high levels of calcium (from antacids) and high levels of meat (hello protein we need) can cause different types of kidney stones. I also saw that many Bariatric by-pass patients develope kidney stones and UTI's.
So my question is, are you all having/had problems? If so other than medicine how are you able to keep it in check. Cranberry juice is so full of sugar and I have to have the antacids and the protein....
Just curious.
::hugs::

Hi Cyndi,
Sorry to hear about the UTI. I've been unlucky to have 2 of those before & a kidney infection. Ouch talk about pain.
You can find the cranberry juice light, it has 1/2 the amount of sugar. Why not try a calcium pill instead of an antacid? Also my doctor has me on "Actigall" for 6 months to prevent gall stones. Good luck & feel better soon.

I have kidney stones...have had them for years (they are very small and haven't changed or passed). I also am very prone to UTIs, unfortunately. How about the cranberry capsules only open them up and dump them into something...your protein shake or some Crystal Light? I used to take them religiously, but just haven't since surgery...I probably should though!.
Hope you feel better soon.

Cyndi,

Hang in there!

Cyndi,
Drink lots of water. That will help in making the kidneys filter the yukky stuff through. Lots of vitamins and mineral deposits can cause kidney stones. I had calcium ones prior to my surgery. The cranberry pills/capsules can help. As far as a UTI, watch for change in color in urine, cloudy, fever also as well as odor. If you are not drinking enough water you will see your urine as dark. If you are taking iron you will see your urine as orange or a dark yellow and also have a strong odor. This is just from the iron. Take care and good luck. I used to work with a urologist as a nurse and these are the common things.
