Has anyone tried oatmeal yet? I bought some whole grain instant oatmeal, but I was worried about it swelling or something in my pouch. I heard grits and cream of wheat is so early out, but then I've heard of people eating them. I don't know. Thanks! April

I am almost 4 weeks out and I can have grits and crm of wheat. I can also have baby oatmeal(ick). I can't have oatmeal until I am 6 weeks out. I don't know about the swelling. I guess it's what ever your surgeon says is ok. Cindy

My surgeon said yes to COW in the pureed stage and no to oatmeal until 6 weeks out. I've not really tried either as they dont have much protein but they are good fiber if you need it. I did buy a box of baby oatmeal when I was preparing for surgery....I guess that will go to the food box with all the extra cans of chicken broth and jello boxes.

COW is lazy fingers for Cream of Wheat.....no cow going on either, beef was on the list of no-no's for at least 6 months.

Hi April, I have had cream of wheat (yummy!) since 2 weeks out and no problems. I had oatmeal once and it was very fulling only after 1/4 cup. Try a little and take your time, you may get full quick. Dawn

I could have cream of wheat after two weeks out, but oatmeal had to wait until 6 weeks (which I just started this week!! Whoo hoo...no more restrictions!!). I haven't tried the oatmeal, but the cream of wheat did fill me up very, very fast, so eat slow.

I've been able to have cream of wheat since the pureed stage with no problem. Haven't tried oatmeal yet but I've always prefered cream of wheat.

I've been allowed oatmeal since day one. Never had any problem with it. I do get the low sugar kind - can't remember the brand but its the commercial that all the people have the scales shackled to their ankle. I love the cinnamon and brown sugar. Beth
