Finaly saw my bill today

I havnt recieved anything in the mail yet, but I went to myuhc.com Its the site for united health care, anyway I say they denied the 2500 claim for the anastesia. Said the dr was out of network. WTH!!! shouldnt my surgeon have known that? besides I dont think I ever heard of anyone being out of network. Im pissed. My max out of pocket is 4k. but this goes towards the 6k that is max out of pocket for out of network. Elsa

Hi Elsa, This has happened to me before. Not with my WLS. I couldn't believe it because my insurance covered at the hospital. Why would he work there if it didn't. I called the Dr and they called the insurance and worked it out. Hopefully that will happen with you. I have had issues with my insurance to. My Dr is billing the wrong insurance. I guess they don't listen when you tell them a million times that it is wrong but now all the other people that they shared it with have it wrong too. Have a Good Weekend! Jenn

HI Elsa I hope it gets straitened out for you. But whatever you have to pay, it is worth it 100%. I am self pay and traveled out of the country and still had to pay $16,000.00 I would do it again in a heartbeat. Hell, I'd pay double if I had to! Bridget

Elsa, I also have UHC and it looks as if my bill was covered. All I have been billed for is the $200 copay. Of course UHC payed a contracted amount of 15k+ on the total bill of 43k+ and the hospital listed the rest as "adjusted." I would have had a duck, too, if I opened the bill and had bad news as well. I hope you can get it worked out. Sandy

I was self pay and keep repeating this in my mind : "I am definately worth more then a car, I am am definately worth more then a car, I am definately worth more then a car"... it helps me keep it all in perspective.

thank God you didn't get my bill you would have tripped out completely. I had to have green field filter put in 2 days before gastric by-pass, the bill for the 2 days, only sent one night in the hospital. Was over $70,000.00, and than I get a $1000.00 bill from the shrink, too. I hope you get it worked out with the insurance, I would call and ask them, or call the surgeon and ask him about it. I paid my bill today, the balance on the hospital part, anyway. I, too, was self pay and the hospital was $33k and they discounted it $10k for self pay - how sweet! My wonderful, caring and amazing surgeon even took a copy of my bill at my one month, reconciled and disputed a few things for me but the hosp would not budge. For that he gets my platinum star prize. Yeah, the price tag is a shocker but what better investment is there other than ourselves? (I'll be reminding myself of this every month as I write a check for years to come....). T
