If your Dr. prescribed prevacid for you how long do you have to take it. I just looked on my box and it's for one month and I'm wondering if I should have my Dr. call me in another couple months of prescriptions. I don't want to make my pouchie upset Any advice or thoughts are appreciated. Thanks, Jean

Jean, I'm not sure but I take Protonix (prescription) acid reducer and have been on it for about 2 years before surgery. I guess they are going to keep me on it for a little while. I would check with your surgeon. Carly

My doc prescribed a month of nexium after the surgery to help with any reflux while healing. It might be along the same lines, but when in doubt just give your dr's office a quick call. Beth

Seems all docs have a different plan for everything regarding this surgery. Honestly think you need to ask your own doc how long. I was prescribed prevacid as well and have to take it daily for 6 months, although I have been forgetting it often. Could be another reason why nothing seems to stay down for long. This past week has been H*** for me as everything I try comes right back up. Today, has been a much better day today. Been able to tolerate 2 wheat ritz crackers with american cheese. I make sure I drink my isopure protein drinks to make sure I get enough protein, but have to admit I wasn't even able to take in protein drinks or my vitamins this past week. So back to topic is I would recomend you call your doc and see what they say. Deb H.

I saw my doc on Monday and asked him this very question. My rx is for 4 months and said to stay on it till the rx runs out and then I can stop. So call your doc and see what he has to say.

My doc puts all of his RNY patients on prescription strength Pepcid for 2 years post-op. He said it's because we are at a high risk for ulcers, especially in the first 2 years.
