Protein bars...yuck
I think that they should be put into a big stack and burned!
I can't seem to try anything that even remotely tastes semi-good. The latest one that I've tried is Adkins Advantage; peanut butter and covered in chocolate and then the other one is granola with choc chips on top. Now the granola wasn't horrible and it is tolerable.
But seriously, 0 sugar and 0 taste. I can't even force myself to eat them. I was eyeing these tasty looking double fudge things and then the nurse at the dr office said to look for whatever has the lowest amount of sugary. Well, AA was the best in low sugar. Double fudge went right out the window.
Any suggestions?
Power Crunch bars arnt too bad. They are low in carb/sugar... actually the lowest I have found.
They taste just like those wafer cookies... you can get them at The Vitamin Shoppe or GNC i think.
But, most days I figure I may as well just eat some chicken or turkey (grilled, jerky, whatever) because it has more protein.
The two bars I eat are Quaker Q-Smart bars: (in peanut butter chocolate too)

I have tried a myriad of other brands over the years (and recently) and these are the only two I can eat. The others to me are

You might also try the new South Beach bars. They have 23g of protein and under 3g barbs. You wouldn't be able to eat the whole thing, but it works for when you need that little something. My mom just tried the chocolate peanut butter one (it's like a peanut butter rice krispy treat w/ chocolate on the bottom) and she thought she'd died and gone to heaven!
I've seen them at both Wal-mart and Walgreens. And, if you really like them after trying them, Sams carries them in boxes at a much better price.

I don't do protein bars or drinks. They are nasty and they are not "real" food. I keep beef jerky in my car (I get big bags at Costco). I also eat yogurt, string cheese, a spoonful of low fat ricotta or cottage cheese, or a few almonds or other nuts...they all have protein. I have heard that our bodies absorb animal proteins better than soy or plant proteins anyway, so they are actually preferable to the bars and drinks I think. I haven't used any of these drinks or bars since surgery and my protein levels were right on target at my 2 month appt.
