Having an alcoholic beverage yet? Please don't slam me. I am not asking about getting rip-roaring drunk. I didn't do that pre-op. I am two months out today. It has been an awful week, and I miss having a beverage or two on Fridays like this. Just wanted to see what others experiences have been. Thanks! Sandy L

I am interested to hear as well, for the same reason. I have no desire to get drunk and However a relaxing drink would be nice. Leeanne

Leeanne, I am thinking of trying a little something tonight, not sure what yet. Beer, rum, and vodka drinks were favorites before. I know beer is too carbonated, so I won't try that, and I am afraid of sugars in rum right now, so I am thinking of vodka. I also thought of wine, but wine used to give me migraines, so it kind of scares me too. Maybe vodka, but mixed with what? hhmmm... If I try it tonight, I'll let you know. I just don't want to get sick, because I haven't vomited yet since surgery! Would like to keep that lucky streak going! Sandy L

I haven't tried yet either. I'm a social drinker (and a private one ) but I'm waiting for as long as possible before I drink again. I have heard that a very little amount will get you absolutley smashed though. So maybe 1/3 of a glass of wine might be sufficent but don't quote me on that. Dana

Dana, I thought about trying wine, just hope it won't give me a migraine like it used to before surgery. I just hope there are a few souls out there braver than me. I thought about posting on the main board, but those folks can be vicious at times! Sandy L

I had surgery Jan 3rd but haven't tried alcohol yet. I wasn't a big drinker before the surgery - maybe a glass of wine every month or so. I do wish I could have a little red wine, but I'm leary of getting drunk or sick. Will be interested in hearing from others! Eileen

Eileeen, I haven't been sick yet either since surgery, and have felt very lucky for it! I don't want to be asking for trouble, but at the same time, I am ready for a little 'normalcy.' Know what I mean? If I give it a try tonight, I'll let you all know. (unless I chicken out... ) Sandy L

OK...here goes. I DID have a night out where I had a couple of drinks (which is cheating, my doctor wanted me to wait at least 3 months). I went to a birthday party and didn't have anything bu****er, then we all trekked to a local neighborhood bar to karaoke. I finally broke down and just decided to try a drink. I had a vodka cranberry (it was all I could think of off the top of my head, even though I know the sugars in the cranberry juice must be high). Everyone was watching me waiting to see if I got drunk fast or not. About two-thirds of the way through the drink I looked at everyone and said, "Well, I don't feel a thing." And I was totally SIPPING the drink too. However, right after I said that, BAM, it hit me and I started to feel totally buzzed and goofy. My friend got me a glass of water and I ended up buying one more vodka cran and slowly sipping on both that and the water, and I ended up just feeling happily buzzed, without feeling super drunk. I must say though, I could drink a LOT prior to surgery (usually beer and lots of shots with my friends) so my tolerance might still be higher than some of you guys here. Also, very important, is that prior to drinking I had broken out of a stall and been consistently losing something almost every day for about two weeks. AFTER that night, I had a week and a half of nothing, and then went up and down until I believe now I have finally broken out of that and am losing again. I can't say for sure it had to do with that night but I am not taking any chances and am not drinking again for awhile (and when I do, I will figure out a better choice than high-sugar cranberry juice!). Anyway, that was my experience.

Thank you for your 'confession!' I thought about vodka and cranberry, and you know... they make a diet cranberry juice! Don't know if you can get it at a bar, but you can certainly get it at the grocery store! Pre surgery, I also found some SF drink mixers, but I am worried/wondering about how much sugar is in rum? How far out from surgery were you when you cheated? Sandy L

You know what they say, confession is good for the soul! I have thought about bringing diet cranberry juice to a bbq or party or something too, when I start drinking again. They didn't have any available at the bar I was at, unfortunately. I found this site for Bacardi 151 rum: http://www.drinksmixer.com/desc185.html It only has a dash (--) for sugars, so I am not sure what that means. I have a printout at home that my doctor gave me that includes alcohol. It does say that 80 proof alcohols average around 70 calories per. I was at almost 7 weeks when I cheated. At this point, I am going to try to wait until at least the 3 months recommended by my doctor are up before trying again, but I have to say, it was A LOT of fun that night with my friends.
