Has anyone from early January tried....
Does fitday have a calorie/sugar rating for alcohol? There should be a list somewhere. There is also scotch, not sure if anyone likes that or not, that is my choice, when I do have anything. I only drink single malt, Sheepdip being my favorite, but like Glen Fidick too. I haven't tried it yet, as I got smashed real easy before WLS and have no idea what it will be like now. As far as I know, my Doc released me for everything, I take it that includes drinking, if I had a mind too, which I don't right now.

I've had a drink. Had one vodka cranberry over the course of 2-3 hours while out at the bar with friends. Sipped it VERY slowly. I mean, baby sips! For every sip of my drink, I took another 1-2 sips of the ice water i had also ordered. I was able to maintain a nice/small buzz, but never felt out of control. I figured that the cranberry juice is high sugar, but since it took me about 3 hours for one drink, that I wasn't getting TOO many grams of sugar per hour (does that make sense?). This is a big change from pre-op, when I could easily have 4+ drinks while out at the bar. Talk about being a cheap date for my boyfriend, since he only had to buy me one drink!

I have twice. Once for my sister's birthday I had a draft cider and then after my grandfathers funeral I had a glass of wine. No negative effects, I did get buzzed off of the wine and was more thirsty then usual the next morning, but all in all it was an okay experience. Didn't seem to affect my weight loss either. My overall view though of the surgery is a little different then some people though - I had the surgery to help me live a healthier life and do not want it to rule my life. I drink diet coke too. Everything in moderation.

Beth
I have a few times, red wine is my choice. Usually its about a half glass and sometimes I have taken a sip and felt it hit my liver so I would not have any more that night.
I am in a lot of social drinking situation for work and for the most part abstain but on occassion do indulge for a quality event or beverage.
It does not seem to affect my weight loss as I've lost in weeks of and after having some wine.
My surgeon said an occassional glass was fine - my consumption is not more than every other week....well, in Berlin this week I had alcohol 3x.
I had a glass of champagne and the bubbles did not bother me; actually they got my system 'moving' if you know what I mean and that was a relief. I dont drink hard alcohol, that's not something I could tolerate pre-op.
A glass gives me a nice light buzz and that enough for me. I will also say I sobered up very quickly, too.
I have read that it stops fat burning so its not something I will have regularly or in a large quantity. My surgeon said I had one of the nicest livers he's seen in a long time with no fat intrusion so I dont worry too much about the fatty liver part. But I dont feel my system is interested or able to have more than an occassional few sips.
