In the paperwork I got from my doctor it suggested taking biotin to prevent hair loss and using Nioxin shampoo. I'm wondering if anyone has started using these products. When does the hair loss start to happen? Karen

I have taken it from day one. The hair loss starts about 3 or 4 months out and lasts up to 8 months. No one knows if biotin helps or not, no evidence either way. Most people have some form of it. Some loose more than others. There are some who don't have it. But taking biotin doesn't hurt anything. The nioxin shampoo is something I haven't used. The theory behind the hair loss is that the body had a shock to it by the surgery or the rapid weight loss caused the shock. With the shock, the hair stops growing. When it starts again, it pushes out the old hair for new hair to start. There is the hair loss.

What brand of biotin do you use? I haven't noticed any hair loss yet, but I do think my hair may have stopped growing. It sounds like the hair will eventually grow back according to the theory you mentioned. Thanks for the info.

I believe I got mine at a Rite Aid. Not sure of the brand, but they only had one. I have taken one a day since surgery. I believe they are 600mg. 300% of the daily allowance.

At puritin.com I got super biotin, 5000mg in a easily absorbed capsule. I am 10 weeks out and have not had any hair issues and hope this helps avoid them. Puritin.com also has lots of deals - buy 2 get 3 free kinda stuff. Good luck, Tiffany
