Protien Intake
Ok, so I know every Doc is different but I want ideas and opinions.
1) How much protien are you consuming daily?
2)What did your doc tell you to consume?
3)How many meals do you eat a day?
4)What is your opinion on our bodies going into starvation mode?
I have stalled again for 2 weeks. This is the second time and I am not 2 months out yet. My nut says to get in 60 gm.s of protien and eat 3 meals and 1 snack a day. I am doing that but wonder if it's not enough for me. I do get in my 64 oz of water and I am exercising on the Nordic Track every day. I only started out at 4 min. a day and am up to 12 min. a day. That burns about 150 cals. I also do some resistance exercises with bands. I watch my fat, I don't eat sugar, I eat some carbs but only veggies or sometimes a whole wheat rf cracker or low carb whole wheat wrap but only once a week or so.
Thanks for your answers. I just want to make the best of this trip we are on!

Hey Leanne,
I just looked at my report on fitday and am averaging about 55, I had one bad day where I only got 13 gop and that screwed my average up. Over the past few days I am consistently at 61-69 gop.
My surgeon recommended 60-70 gop per day.
I eat when I am hungry, I do not have a set number of meals so to speak. I eat between 600 & 800 calories per day.
I have heard quite a bit about starvation mode. That is why it is so important to 1) meet your protein requirement 2) meet your fluid requirements 3) maintain a healthy number of calories. My nut said that less than 700 calories (excluding the first several weeks after surgery) and your body will think that it is starving. There is another "problem" calle hibernation syndrome, check out this link http://www.gastricbypassfamily.com/Hibernation.html
I get in about 60 oz of water per. I walk and play with the kids on the floor and in the backyard. I have some windsor pilates tape that my sis and I are going to start today.
I do eat carbs but try to watch where they come from, but I am fffffaaaaarrrr from perfect with the carbs. I averaged 37 carbs per day last week.
Fat is one area where I would like to see myself improve, all of this dense protein is so high in fat. Years ago, I was on a medically supervised diet and was told in order to maintain a lowfat diet that a food should not contain more than 3 grams of fat per 100 calories. I am exceeding this number, another item to work on.
God Bless,
Jen
I average about 80g of protein a day... usually i get either 70 or 90 (bad days and good)
My doc says get no less then 70g a day, and to shoot for 100g.
I eat 3 meals + 1 protein drink a day usually. Sometimes, I will drink 2 proteins and have 2 meals.
Starvation mode is tricky. The whole point of WLS is to deprive the body, thus allowing it to burn our stored fat. HOWEVER, I did have a month long stall and I also just had a 2 week stall, and I did everything right... after my month long stall I saw my surgeon (on request of my nut) and he reviewed my daily food diaries (which I am boarderline OCD on, so they were 100% accurate). My surgeon basically said that some bodies will stall. If you know you are doing everything right, then sometimes you just have to wait. Which is annoying, trust me, I know. But our bodies will hold on to fat because it thinks it won't get any (and its right, lol) but eventually it will let it go. Just keep on working hard and the tool will eventually do its part

Hi Leeanne
I average about 70 or so grams of protein per day
My surgeron said to eat min of 60
I eat typically 3 meals a day ( maybe a snack once or twice a week)
And of course our bodies go into starvation mode but that's what makes our bodies to start living off our fat stores
Stalls are normal...I'm in one myself. Well not exactly a stall but a slowdown. I've only lost 7.5lbs this past month.
Doctor recommended more fluid and to up the excersise to jump start the weightloss.
Good luck to us all!
Regards and hugs,
Ronna

1) About 85gms on average (according to Fitday)
2) 40-60gms (I think...going by memory and too lazy to look at my binder right now!)
3) That depends. I am not structured at all, though I know that is a no no
I can't help it, it's just the way things are with my life. I do the best I can though!
4) This is something I've been thinking about lately. I think there really truly is something to it. I notice that when I increase calories for a couple of days then go back to my "normal" calorie intake, that is when I drop weight again. Who knows?

It is so interesting how each surgeon is different. I am supposed to get 79grams of protein in daily (based on my height) I was only doing 50-60 for a while and just recently discovered Profect protein (a little 2.7oz bottle has 25gr of protein!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and the past few days I've been hitting 70s!
I was told to eat every 2-3 hours, so essentially 6 small meals a day. Grant you my protein drink is one meal. I also have a very small pouch, it only holds 1-2 oz of food, that's it.
I think our bodies have been in a starvation mode. Someone of the board a few days ago talked about exercising so your body doesn't break down the muscle, and i think they were right. If you don't exercise your body is going to burn what ever is there. Having said that though, I think our bodies need time to adjust. So we may have a week or two when the weight loss slows as our bodies try to figure out what is going on. Then, our bodies come to terms with everything, and then the weight comes off again. Just keep doing what you're doing and it'll happen. Have faith in yourself and your medical team.
