Introducing Myself
My name is Patti - I have been lurking and decided to "come out of the closet." My surgery was 01/09/06. It was open RNY, a revision to gastric stapling I had done in 1982. Spent the first 24hrs in ICU as a precaution due to history of asthma. Surgery was Monday, came home Friday evening. Surgery went perfectly - no problems or complications. My drain was removed before I was discharged.
My recovery was uneventful - no problems whatsoever. I have never thrown up or even felt like it. I haven't had that "stuck" feeling or anything like others describe. I can eat any kind of meat with no problems. I can't drink milk anymore, even the lactose free kind - and salad seems to give me the runs. Other than that, I can tolerate all foods. I can tolerate things that have up to 10g of sugar, but I haven't tried anything with more than that and I don't intend to. I have not cheated once, or tried to eat any "bad" carbs. Well, I did eat two french fries - but I didn't really like them pre-op and after eating those two, I still don't like them very much. So it didn't trigger anything.
I do think I win the prize for the slowest loser though. I lost 23 lbs in the three weeks before surgery. I was 310 on the day of surgery. I am 276 today. 33 lbs lost since surgery, which was almost 12 weeks ago. But I can walk two miles now, and my clothes are falling off me, so I'm happy. I try not to obsess about it, and I don't have a scale at home (I weighed at the fitness center this morning). I'm trying to focus on fitness goals and not so much the scale. I'm 52 and that works against me, I think. And I think he told me that because mine was a revision, I would lose slower.
Sorry this was kind of long.....
Dear Patti,
It is great to have you here! You are on the way to your goal, so don't fret about slower weight loss...mine has been kind of slow too. The older we get the longer it takes to lose weight because we have learned over the years to conserve our energy, I think! I heard that before, but it is proving to be true. I am 53 years old, I had my surgery Dec 27 and so far have lost 54 lbs. I have a lot to lose since I am only 5' 1" and weighed 281 on my surgery date. The more diets we have been on the harder it becomes!! Good luck and stay connected with us!

Sorry this is short, but I gotta get ready for work... yuck!
Again, thanks for introducing yourself and coming out of the shadows!!
