Exercise and Calorie Requirements
Some of us on the Feb board are just starting to workout at gyms and were wondering if any of you could tell us the calories you are consuming in a day to offset your workouts. Most are averaging 800-1000. Do we need more?? (We are hitting our protein goals. We find ourselves hungrier but don't want to go overboard.) Any advice is appreciated.
Jackie,
First let me say congrats on looking into exercise. All too many times I read profiles where people never bother to get moving and are frustrated to find that last 30-40 pounds won't come off.
I joined the gym at 5 weeks post op. I go 5-6 days a week for 2 hours at a time. I do 70 mins of cardio and 40 mins of weight training. On average I burn 1000 calories a day in the gym.
According to fitday.com I average 461 calories a day. That doesn't seem like much compared to some but I am very cautious about what goes in my mouth.
Since I joined the gym I have not had any weight loss stalls. I am averaging 5 pounds a week in loss too.
Hope that helps.

I usually average around 800-1000 cals a day, though my surgeon hasn't addressed the calories issue. I am to make sure I get my protein, vitamins and fluids in, first and foremost.
I don't think you'd need extra calories to offset your workout (that's what our extra body fat is for, right?
) Just my opinion though. How about extra fluids? Just an idea.
Good luck,
Chele
