Is anyone taking Biotin for healthy hair and to help prevent hair loss? If so, how much do you take? I just bought some and it's 300mcg per tablet. I purposely bought the smallest dosage at GNC I could find because the tablet is small. Now I'm wondering just how many I have to take a day. Thanks, Chele

I take 4000mcg a day...they are small but I still split them in half.

It should tell you the recommended daily allowance that the pill is worth, then take 2 or 3 times that. Mine are 3.3 time recommended. Just a note, I am a slow looser and have taken biotin since the first week after surgery. I am loosing my hair. I am not loosing that much, but my weightloss is slower, that is probubly the reason for it. I don't think it has helped stop the hairloss, but my hair and nails are much stronger now. So it is not a complete waist, but if you are already loosing hair, it wont help now, just make what grows in better.

Chele, I bought some but only take it sometimes ... the ones I have are 1500 mcg and it tells you to take 1 per day. FYI - biotin should nto be taken with calcium. I just took one and my b-12 God bless, Jen

I am not having hair loss and am freaked at the possiblility. At Puritin.com I bought a 5000mg capsule which works great going down and take it with my multi each morning.

Hi Chele, I started taking 5000 mcg of Biotin every day about a month before surgery. My surgeon said there is no medical evidence to support it helping to prevent the hair loss that occurs after rapid weight loss, but it sure can't hurt. My hair is baby fine and I have little of it, so I sure can't afford to lose any. I also use a scalp treatment - actually 2 different ones. From Nexxus, Vita Tress Biotin shampoo and scalp treatment, and another one called FolliCure. The scalp treatment from Nexxus is a rinse-out after shampooing, and the FolliCure stays on your scalp. So far, no hair loss. I know it's still a bit early - I've heard other post-ops say it starts usually around 4 months - but I'm hopeful. There was one lady I met yesterday who is 12 weeks out and said her hair is coming out in clumps... Good luck!!
