Today we had Easter at my Mom's. It was the first time I have eaten with my mom and sister since my surgery. I was really nervous. If I ate like I do, Mom would be upset, if I tried to eat more and got sick Mom would be upset. So, what's a good daughter to do. My mom is older and not in good health and the last thing I want to do is upset her. I finally decided to eat what I could and not to worry. I could see that it upset Mom that I didn't eat more but she didn't say anything. The worst was when I sat down at the table with my plate (of course Mom used her big special occasion dishes) and everyone saw how little was on my plate and then the fact that 9/10 ths of it was left when I quit eating. My husband was the only one that said anything at the table. He said "I don't know how she keeps going on what she eats": Later my sister asked me how I keep going on what I eat. Mom just reached out and took my hand. I knew then that Mom trusted me to do what was right for me. Hazel

HAZEL Thank You for sharing your Easter experence. We should all come back tomorrow and let you know how it went for us......I'm seeing my brother and wife and kids for the first time since christmas. And my surgery was January 30, 2006. My parents are very supportive. But this will be my first multi family holiday dinner. I plan to sit with everyone but I/m thinking about bringing my own food. I don't want to get anyone upset for not eating there food. But I would rather play it safe then running to the ladies room...Thank You again for sharing your story...Suzan

We live away from my family so I have not had to encounter this problem yet. we will be going home for 2 weeks in may so I am trying to figure out how I will handle that. Only one difference....I did not tell them I had the surgery. MOm knows I had surgery to repair hernia and acid reflux but not anything else. I may have to tell her. I do not want the rest of my family to know...they are a bit narrow minded. I havent seen most of them for years so they wont know that the loss has been recent. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Kim

Hazel its Suzan again...... Just wanted you to know my Easter dinner went great...They served ham, cheeesy patato, green bean casserole, rolls, fruit, lumpia, meatballs, cheesecake and ice cream for dessert. Well I nibbled on one slice of pineapple and 2 strawberries for a appetizer. Then for dinner after everyone had gotten there food I cooked up 12 slices of turkey pepperoni, 1 string cheese, 1 tablespoon of cheesey potatoes, And for dessert I had bought my own sugarfree tapicoa-oops spelling pudding..And I had a cup of decaf chai tea i had bought...Not one person conplain that I didn't eat there food....And noone tried to push anything... It was a fun filled day with family......take care Suzan
