Happy Easter all!!! In the past this was a day marked with raiding the kids baskets, sucking the insides out of a Cadbury egg (still miss that one), and eating carb filled dinners. How'd you make out today with all those temptations swarming around you? My menu~ B: 8oz CCC milk w/1 scoop protein L: (late) 3oz ham, 1 teaspoon corn, 1 teaspoon sweet potatoes D: probably something (not hungry now) Protein is too low though Vitamins in, only exercise I got was clapping in church, doing ok on water. My totals: Cals: 307 Fat: 9 Carb: 13 Protein: 43 Dawn

Dawn, Don't take this the wrong way. How do you get by with so little calories? I have read this thread with interest since it's inception and it's hard for me to imagine getting in as few calories as I see some of you posting. This isn't a flame by any means...or a troll! The surgery works by restricting the volume of the food we eat. Seems you got that covered. Yet secondly, the malabsorption factor allows us to only absorb x percentage of the total calories we consume. For the sake of discussion, let's say half (50%). So if you ate 500 calories, your body would only be absorbing roughly 250. Is that enough? As long as you get your protein and water in, I would think it would be (nutritionally speaking), but are you happy and fulfilled with that amount of food? OMG I have wanted to ask these questions for SO long! My calorie intake per day is 800-1000 calories a day...double what the rest of you post. My surgeon says this is absolutely fine...perfect, in fact. I know our doctors are all different as our nutritionists and surgeries, etc. Just something that has been bugging me for sooooo long! TIA, Chele

Chele~ This is something I really struggle with and am terrifed of at the same time. I am totally consumed by what goes in my mouth. Generally I get about 150 more calories than I did today. I think what it is is that I really focus on low cal, low fat, low carb, high protein foods. You'll see I eat A LOT of chicken and tuna...it has all 4 qualities I look for in food. I'm far from starving myself though. I am always content. Dawn

Dawn, It's really good that you are focused on quality foods. I know my surgeon has talked about that...to be sure to choose the most nutritionally dense foods. Makes sense! Thanks, Chele

Hi Chele: I don't post that often, but when I read your post I was wondering the same thing. I average between 700 and 800 calories a day and some of the folks on the board don't even seem to be getting in 300. The whole malabsorption thing is so hard for me to understand. I do understand the paranoia that is experienced by some of the people about putting anything in their mouth and the fear of gaining weight or stretching out the stoma. I really need to get back to posting and keeping up with my profile. I think my total calorie according to fit day yesterday was about 729 and I feel as if I was eating all day long. I just have to tell myself that that is good and that to go down anymore would not be to good. Iam so anxious to see some of the responses to your question. I hope it produces a good thread. God Bless Denise

I am really looking forward to getting home and getting back into my routine. My nutrition is off kilter. I am committed to getting back on track. There is not cafeteria in the childrens hospital, you have to go next door to the "big peoples" hospital. The walk is 10 minutes one way and I can't leave Grace for that long. For now I am eating the freebies and off of her tray. B - Banana Nut Muffin followed by decaf w/ 2% milk L - Bite of Meatloaf, 2 tsp rice, 2 tsp broccoli, 1 green bean D - Boston Market - Yummy - chicken leg, 2 tsp sweet potato, 2 teaspoon mashed potatoes, 2 teaspoon creamed spinach, 1 teaspoon corn lots of carbs today, not a lot of protein, before I got to sleep I am going to have a shot of profect.
