Anyone familiar with Colitis?

I am just wondering if anyone else has ever had this. I had terrible diarreha last week and started just feeling punky. On Sunday, I got pretty bad abdominal pain. My husband was scared with surgery and all and the possiblility of a complication, leaking, etc. By Monday PM, I was doubled over in extreme pain and unable to eat or drink Sunday afternoon through Monday PM. Hubby took me to emergency room. I was severy dehydrated, running fever in awful pain. They did x-rays and found nothing. Blood tests and urinalysis showed extreme dehydration and elevated white blood cell count. After 4.5 liters of IV fluids, 2 doses of Morphine and anti-neausia, they did a CT Scan. Oh yea, I had to drink 1 liter of contrast They found 3 areas of inflamation in my intestines and diagnosed it as Colitis. They then gave me IV antibotics and sent me home (after 9 hours in ER!) with 2 antibiotics, percocet, and anti nausia. I've had a hard time finding info on this, but surgeon's office said it is not surgery related. Weird coincidence, but okay. I'm still in quite a bit of pain, but am getting somewhat better. I have a very hard time eatting and have been living off laptop, broth and SF Popsicles. If anyone has info on this, I'd love input. I can't find how it is caused. Has anyone experienced this? I couldn't believe the pain. It was worse than post-op pain by far. If my pain meds wear off, I still can hardly stand it and it's been 2 days on meds. Thanks for any insight, Lisa

Thanks for the feedback, I thought it was a hell of a coincidence that I get this after surgery and never before. I am ready for the pain to go away. It's been almost a week now Have a great weekend, Lisa
